A question about rings...

Recommended Posts

I have only been engaged for a week and a half, so I thought I would ask around to see what others think about something...

I LOVE my ring. Its perfect. I hate taking it off. I also worry about losing it. It fits pretty well, but its awfully cold out and some times its a smidge loose when I am cold and my fingers are at their smallest. What I am trying to ask you ladies is, do you keep them on all the time? Sleep in them? Shower in them? Take them off for cooking/cleaning? Just wondering what others do about it. Thanks for your thoughts...

I take mine off when I am preparing dinner and when I put lotion on and when I go to the beach. Other than that, I never take them off.

I wear mine all the time!
even when i shower - sometimes i take it off at night though, it depends how hot i get bc my hands tend to get really swollen when i sleep for some reason. but thats the only time really.

i guess its really what you are comfortable - some people take them off for showering, cooking, cleaning, etc - while others only take it off for certain tasks. it really depends on how you are feeling about it :) once you get into a routine and have a feel for wearing it then you will be able to figure it out.

i am in the same boat though, when i am freezing it is quite loose, but i have never been worried that it is going to fall off - i havent had an incident where it has come close either, not even in the shower.

so goodluck! and happy planning

I pretty much wear mine all the time, except for when I get in the shower (or when I have to take it off for work -- my 2nd job is at a deli and nothing but a plain wedding band is permitted).

I think it's whatever your preference is -- I'm sure your FI will understand if he sees that you've taken it off because you're afraid of damaging/losing it! Maybe look into getting a ring-guard, if you're worried about it being too lose and falling off...that just might do the trick to put your mind at ease!

I think I'm the oddball on this one- I take it off as soon as I get home from work every evening. I've got a little dish for it and that's where it goes. I think I got the habbit from my mother, she always took her rings off (except for her wedding band) as soon as she got home from work, too. I hate showering with it on, and this way I won't forget to take it off if I'm doing some cleaning around the house. It seems to keep it a bit cleaner/ less scratched this way. I'll probably try to keep my wedding band on all of the time, though.

This could be the case- I agree. Maybe have a jeweler take a look. If they tell you it's fine then you may worry less, and if it's too loose it'll feel more secure when they tighten it up for you. Win win! It could just be that you're not used to it, too. I'm not a ring person except for my e-ring and because it's "top heavy" with the stone in the front it tends to shift around a bit on my finger. It felt weird at first, but it can't get over my knuckle at all.

A quick bit of advice. Don't resize your ring until you've worn it for a full summer. It's a whole lot more expensive to size it up than to size it down.

When I first got my ring, I took it off every night. Same was true of my wedding band after I got that. It was a "me" thing - I had always taken off my rings. Then about September of last year, my rings were suddenly more snug. I hadn't gained weight or anything, it was just like my knuckle had gotten big. So much so that I was getting caluses from squeezing them off and on. Then one day I actually got a little cut, and it hurt to put them on or take them off, so I had to quit wearing them for about 2 weeks.

Now I wear them all the time. I've learned to deal with getting my e-ring stuck in my hair when I wash it (a bandaid helps), and being careful when I do dishes. I'll probably get them sized up a half size after it warms up, but I'm not sure as then they'll spin freely around my finger...

Thanks for all the responses. It helps to hear the spectrum of feelings on the matter. I don't feel quite as silly for taking it off to show and clean now. I might get more used to it/less afraid of losing it as time goes on. I thought about having it re-sized but I think once it actually gets above freezing it will be just right, and would probably be too tight in the summer if it were tighter.

Its still pretty new so I am extra self conscious about it. I am sure I will relax at some point! Thanks again ladies!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
