Wedding Destination

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this forum. My wedding celebration weekend is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend 2011. I am having such a hard time deciding on the location and resort. I've been to a couple of websites and everything looks great. Then I go online and read reviews. Once I see a negative review, I get discouraged and nervous.

I am torn between the following locations - Dominican Republic, Mexico and Jamaica. I am looking for a resort that is more modern (not a fan of very old ambiance) and has activities for young people to do. The majority of our guest will be around 25-32 yrs old.

Can you please provide recommendations? How did you go about choosing the right destination?

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the engagement. I would take the negative reviews with a grain of salt. Most people that are unhappy will go to all lengths to let people know, however those that are super happy may not take the time to write a review. So read the negative comments, but really look at what the complaint is about... and is that complaint relevant and valid.

Search this forum, there are tons of real world examples and reviews... If someone has a negative comment here, you can see if they are negative in all their posts. :-)

Congratulations and welcome to the forum! I also had a hard time deciding but after a lot of online research (through this forum and others) I narrowed down my choice. Basically it comes down to where you want to go, how much you want to spend and reaqlly what you want. Maybe you should go talk to a TA, they might be able to help you narrow down your search. Good luck!

I wouldn't worry too much about negative reviews, either. Honestly you could make yourself crazy that way lol. I try to take all reviews, good and bad, with a grain of salt. Some people will have a crappy time no matter where they are, some folks like everything. If I'm on a site like trip advisor I focus more on the percentage of positive to negative reviews. Even the most highly reviewed places will have some bad reviews.

we've stayed at the grand oasis in cancun before and it was a big party hotel, lots to do. they do weddings but i'm not sure how it works (they aren't known for weddings). as the other ladies have said, i wouldn't worry about the negative reviews on resorts too much (unless it mostly negative) b/c you can't please everyone. people who post reviews are usually 150% excited about their experience or 250% pissed about something, there's no "average experience" posting.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
