I'm in Ontario.  So from reading this forum, we can print out the marriage app online, fill it out, sign and take it to City Hall.  Can we do the civil ceremony the same day?  Do I have to find someone to marry us?  How/where? Does Ontario require witnesses?  What's the procedure there?

FH mentioned that we could do it before and they can "post date" the certificate to the date of our ceremony in Cancun... is this true or is the date on the cert going to be the date we did our civil ceremony?

You will have to check with the municipality that you want to get married at. You will probably have to book an appointment but they may provide witnesses for you. The document can not be post dated because it is a legal document.

I work for a municipality north of TO and complete the Marriage Licences and book the marriage commissioner, if you have any question you can PM me but I think your best bet is to call Toronto City Hall or one of the surrounding municipalities, they will tell you what their policies are.

Good Luck!

We looked into doing the legal part at home and I too was suprised that you can't just go to city hall and get married but rather have to get a marriage license and then find someone who can legally marry you at your own location.  Sounded like a lot of work so we are just getting legally married in Jamaica.

Great to know we can easily pick up a Marriage License at London Drugs!! Thanks for sharing all the info, ladies! Nice to know that there are many other DW brides from the Vancouver/Lower Mainland area that are getting legally married here before heading off for the wedding! Best to us all!

Hey is anyone on here from Kelowna or Okanagan area? I am stumped on what to do about this civil ceremony.

I was thinking we could have a marriage commissioner come to our condo, but my FI said no he doesn't want to

do that so back to the drawing board. I need to find a venue that we can get married at and then we would like to have a

nice dinner. We are only going to have us and 4 friends. Any ideas or thoughts. I am almost ready to go to Van and use

Ann Moore.

It seems to be the entire of BC that you can't go to City Hall (I'm British and our equivalent is a Registry Office), so I find it weird that we can't do that. Would make life so much easier! I wasn't sure if my hotel room would be an option, if it is then that would work quite well :) We're doing the same as a lot of the brides of here seem to be, having a quick, small ceremony then the "proper" wedding later. Though in our case it'll be a few years later! I really appreciate reading other people's stories, it kind of helped my thinking. I was starting to stress out, like Oh I wonder if I could get my hair curled at a hairdressers so I can look kind of nice...I wonder what I could do about make up...I wonder if I could wear just a white dress...I have to make it "special" in SOME way...etc etc. But...the important part is that we're getting married, I get to spend the rest of my life with this guy, and the big celebration? I'll get that, just not right now :) It's also helped with how I'm going to word it when I tell my family "Oh guess what I did today...!!!" LOL It might help them eventually forgive me if I tell them it was just a legality, signing of papers, no big deal...!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
