when to register...

Recommended Posts

I did a search to see if I found anything like this, but I didn't see it. Granted, it was a QUICK search!

How soon is too soon to register? I am not getting married for 10 more months, but we sent the STD's out a few weeks ago and my mom said that she has already gotten phone calls about where we were registered. I assumed I had PLENTY of time before we needed to do that...

I dunno - is there a "too soon"?? We're not registering, but this honestly has never crossed my mind, and probably wouldn't have even if we were!! I think you can register whenever you want, as long as you register for things that won't be "outdated" by the time your wedding rolls around (e.g. anything really trendy, or some electronics... etc)

It takes so long. I registered on-line first so that when I took my FI he wouldn't get frustrated with having to fill out all he paper work. You can really do most of it on-line. I remember being in Macy's for 3 hours registering....and only got a few towels from there....everything else came from Target - - argh!!!

I would register as soon as possible. I swear, I had people asking me about where we were registered immediately after we got engaged...we didn't even know where we were going to get married!

But it's good to get an early start, and then you can alter along the way, plus keep a running list of things you think of that you do need or don't need, that you don't think about in the store or online.

This was years ago so maybe the system is better. When people would register at target too early, their items would get rearranged & not get updated on their registry so nothing was on the right aisle. Also, a lot of stuff would go out of stock. I don't think you are as likely to run into this problem at a department store. If you are registering at target, maybe you could update it later. They may have fixed the problem too. I haven't used a registry in over 3 years because I'm always flying to the wedding so I just give giftcards or a chack.

we registered like 11 months before the wedding- which i thought was lucicrous- but football season was starting and matt wasn;t going to have a free weekend- well it turned out to be great that we got it done so early. and after you finsh the "initial" set-up you can easily add/delete from the internet

We (and I use the word "we" very loosely because I don't remember my FI having to smile politely at the Bloomingdales woman for 3 hours) registered about a month after our engagement. We didnt think we had to for a while because we didnt have a wedding date, but a lot of friends and family wanted to get engagement gifts. It really does take a long time to do depending on how many stores you use. My advice is definitely to take it one store at a time. I think we started with one registry and ended up with 4, but it took us over 2 months to be completely done with it. Also, don't forget to check your registries every week or so. Lot's of stuff "expires" so you have to be ready to replace it. The best thing you can do is ask the sales people what items are seasonal and what items are there permanently.

we weren't originally going to register for anything. then when my MIL and SILs said they wanted to throw me a shower (wasn't going to have one), they convinced me to register. so we probably registered in April ,since the shower was in May, for our June wedding.

I registered a few weeks ago for my May wedding next year. I read in some etiquette book that you're not supposed to register until at least 8 months before the wedding, but I don't know of anyone who follows that rule. I'm just going to check online every once in awhile to see if the stores changed inventory and stopped selling something I registered for. I tried to do it myself (trust me...easier than bringing Mike!!!) and it was a little overwhelming, so I went back with my mom. At Bed Bath & Beyond, they gave me a list of about 300 items that you are "supposed" to register for, so it gets a little crazy trying to figure out where to start. Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
