Hi there,

I am new to this site, and am sooo happy I found it!  I am getting married at the Barcelo Resort in June as well and have been very frustrated with the process so far.  We have been sending emails to Ana with no response only to find out today she no longer works at the resort!  We are now considering going offsite and hiring a wedding co-ordinator.  Littlemissunshine, we have also contacted Rachel for assistance, how far is your offsite venue from the barcelo.  How do your guests get to the offsite venue???

When we decided on a destination wedding in Cabo we wanted to choose a resort that accomodated us and our 35 guests the best. We would be having kids as well as grandparents and wanted a resort that was modern, not too big or too small, and was affordable for our guests. After research we chose the Barcelo because we thought it met our criteria best. We liked Dreams as well but it was significantly more expensive for our guests and we didn't want people not to be able to come. We knew that the wedding planning dept at Barcelo didn't have a lot of reviews because it was so new, and that we were taking a big chance, but we decided to go ahead and book there.

In September we put down a deposit to have our wedding at the Barcelo resort in June 2011. We chose the strawberry package and planned to have around 35 guests. Us and all of our guest have booked flights and hotel already so we will all be staying at the Barcelo. I'm happy with that decision still. While there have been mixed reviews on the resort, I think our stay will be nice and us and our guests will enjoy it.

Now, the wedding planning is a whole other issue. The whole process has been nothing but a nightmare! First the original wedding coordinator leaves and they fail to let us know. The new wedding coordinator is a sweet girl yes, but she doesn't respond to emails or phone calls promptly, or at all sometimes. I imagine she is overwhelmed and swamped, but that is no excuse. If they need more help they should hire someone else! When we are lucky enough to get someone on the phone they say "oh we've been trying to get in touch with you, but emails won't go through, or your phone number doesn't work". Such a blatant lie. I understand that some resorts only deal with the weddings that are coming up soon- so you have to wait to plan things until the months or a few weeks before your wedding date. I can understand that, but when you need information from the resort to help you plan things on your end then they should be getting back to you. We did not feel comfortable waiting  until the month before our wedding to book vendors- chances are the best vendors will be already booked by then.

In the end my fiance and I decided we wanted to try and get out of our contract with Barcelo to have our wedding there and book somewhere off-site. After many phone calls and emails, my fiance was able to get in touch with Barcelo and we were able to cancel the wedding without penalty. They were probably sick of hearing from us! Our deposit will be applied to our room as credit (I'll believe that when I see it though). We have hired an outside coordinator who is helping us plan an off-site wedding and I am soooo relieved!

I have heard of other things that Barcelo is doing that makes me even happier we're not having our wedding there. Apparently they recently increased the price for a day pass for vendors to come to the resort to $85 per person despite whatever price was listed in your contract (ours was $65). They also have random fees thrown in here and there without any mention of them when you book your wedding- i.e. if your reception goes over 3 hrs you have to pay $12 per person per hour (that includes guests staying at the resort!!!!), and then $15 per hour for each staff member. This just seems ridiculous to me.

Long story short, if you're thinking of the Barcelo for your wedding then I would make sure you really do your research and get everything in writing before you make a deposit or sign a contract!

Hi Zahra! Welcome to the forum! I must say that I am so so so happy we hired Rachel to help us coordinate the wedding! She has been amazing! Our venue is 20-25 minutes from Barcelo. We hired transportation to drive guests back and forth from the venue to the resort. There are a few different transportation companies in Cabo from what I understand. There are a variety of different vehicles you can rent- vans, suburbans, escalades, limos, and cars, and obviously varying prices. If you have more questions feel free to contact me!

This resort is EXACTLY what I have been looking for and when I found it I was soooo excited.  It is kid friendly, all inclusive, has night life, very modern, new rooms, golfing, etc.  All that we have been looking for.  Has anyone actually gotten married through Barcelo yet?  There is only going to be 19 of us (including my fiance and I) so it should be pretty simple planning.  I think I'll hire an outside wedding coordinator in Cabo to work with the coordinator at Barcelo because it sounds like the Barcelo coordinator is hard to work with.

Any other advice for me in planning Barcelo?

Thanks all!

Kristen

We are getting married at the Barceló Los cabos this November. Originally we were going to go to the Riu Palace, but were having problems with the tour operators. So far the planning / booking experience has been pretty good. It takes a couple of days for responses which is fine, because we didn't need to know th answers to our questions immediately! I found at all the other resorts we looked at that we were having a similar experience (except the Melia-they were awesome-gave us all the prices right away, and answered our emails pretty quickly!) they all took a while for responses to emails and all the up charges... And we were in touch with just about every all inclusive resort in Cabo! We have a few friends that have stayed at the Barceló in Cabo and loved it. We had another friend go for a site visit and told us that we HAD to get married there. I think it's so beautiful in Cabo that you can't really go wrong anywhere!

My fiance and I are negotiating a contract with the Barcelo Los Cabos Palace Deluxe for our wedding in May of 2014.  I am so excited!  A friend of mine was married here in April of 2012 and said it was like a fairy tale and she would not have changed a thing.  I'll provide more details once we get our contract signed!

The resort is beautiful, close to the airport (had a friend that recently attended a destination wedding at Dreams in Tulum and really disliked the 2 hour ride from the airport to the resort), welcomes all ages, singles and couples and has great food and bars (from what I have been told).

I just had my wedding yesterday at the Hyatt Ziva (formerly the Barceló Los Cabos) and everything was beyond perfect. The wedding coordinator (Ariadna) was phenomenal, we got everything we requested and more! We had our wedding at the gazebo at sunset, followed by photos on the beach, cocktails at the lagoon area and dinner and dance at the adult pool (very private) and ended the night with fire lanterns on the beach! Hair and makeup was done at the spa at the resort, at first I thought my hair was a bit much, but the girls knew that by the time I went to walk down the aisle it would be perfect. The minister was great. You would have thought he had know. Us for years. He really made the service special! The good was great, the service was great...and all the hard work and planning and stress was totally worth it. I do to know why there aren't more reviews on this resort here, because there have been at least 2 weddings every day since we arrived! There was another wedding going on at almost the same time, and you never would have known...they kept both parties separate and special. If you have any questions, pm me!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
