Dress Is In...Now What??

Recommended Posts

So I got the call ladies...my dress came in today!!! But now I have so many questions, and the store was closed by the time I got the message. I tried to search on here for answers, but the search came up with nothing.

So here's the deal: Originally, my MOH's mom was going to alter the dress (just minor stuff: shorten hem and straps) and keep the dress for me. But her son has moved back home with her and he smokes, so I'm not crazy about having my dress in a house with smoke. Since my wedding is in June, that's a long time to store it.

So how do things work with dress shops:

*Do they keep your dress til the wedding only if they alter it?

*Do they only keep it only until the alterations are done?

*Do they charge to store it??

My consultant originally said the alterations would be under $100 because its so minor, which isn't too bad (if its actually true!) But anymore than that is kinda stretching the budget. I guess I'll just have to go down there this week and get all the details. But I'd love to hear what others have done so I know what I'm getting into! Also any tips for talking with the seamstress would be awesome!!!!

Thanks!

The place I bought my dress from was actually surprised that I was going to take my dress home with me. They made it sound like I was supposed to just leave it with them until about 2 months before the wedding and then I would come in to have final fittings.

I was like...ummm, no I want to take it with me (I love to try it on every once in a while when FI's not home wink.gif )

It all depends on the bridal salon honestly. My bridal salon only keeps it in storage if you do in house alterations. After alot of misinterpretations I found out yesterday that my bridal salon schedules to give you the dress about 4-5 days before the wedding. So they actually do alterations, have it pressed and give it to you ready to go then. When i got the dress i thought i was going to wear for the AHR in a bridal salon in NY they actually said they would keep the dress in storage until close to the date(they were a small quaint shop). I guess it all varies from shop to shop just like the no pictures before purchase policy :) so id definitely give them a call and find out.

I was asked if I could take take mine home the week befor Xmas as they did not have the storage to keep it until the fitting for alterations , which was today. I go back for the final fitting after the alterations 19th Jan and leave to be married 1/03/10

My salon was going to charge for storage so my mom stored the dress at her house until it was time for fittings. I got fittings done elsewhere since I had found my dress at a salon in the area I don't live in. $100 sounds like a great deal, but be careful with that initial quote. I was quoted $100 when I first took it in but at each fitting (I had 3) I kept losing weight due to wedding stress so she had to keep taking it in. In the end I almost spent $300.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
