I HATE TripAdvisor!!

I usually stalk tripadvisor as well. Though, I have to admit that once I picked the resort I havent been back since I have been so busy with wedding stuff. BUT when we went to Jamaica in Novemeber I was on there EVERY DAY and I read all of the reviews, good and bad. Once I really started to read what the "bad" review people were saying I just started to realize that these people probably could not EVER be pleased. Now, I am not saying that they are lying, but I reallllly started to look at EXACTLY what they were complaining about. then I would think "Ok, how would I feel if that happened to me. Like.. if I read that it took "forever" (AKA probably a little longer than normal) to get their food, I know that I wouldnt care about that. We are in a different culture and on VACATION, I am in no hurry. If I read something about how the "beach was too crowded" then I would take into account that some people like more people around than other. I hope you get where I am going with this. I mean, some people have ACTUAL concerns and some people are just too damn picky and need to relax and enjoy their VACATION. I think that a lot of people that complain are expecting things to be JUST like they are here in America. Where everything is FAST and RIGHT NOW.. and that just isnt the case everywhere.

So, my advice would be.. to take these reviews with a grain of salt. Sure, there are things that could go wrong.. but when there are hundreds and HUNDREDS of people that go to the same place and have the vacation that they were wanting.. it make you wonder how they can all have this wonderful awesome time in a place that is so "crappy" to some people.

I agree -- most of the people who write ANY reviews online are reporting a bad experience. Of the last 6 resorts I have been to, I have NEVER written a resort and they were all fantastic. So, you have to take the comments with a grain of salt. People who take the time to review the resort, have motivation to..! I loved all of the ones I went to, and read all the reviews but never wrote any.

I know EXACTLY what you are saying....it's reassuring to see the great reviews, and can spur on a near panic-attack when you read the bad, but look at it this way: your guests are ultimately going to be there to share your wedding with you, and I believe even if the resort is not the best place your guests may have gone in their travels, they will still have an amazing time, because of the HAPPY OCCASSION that brought them there!

Just think of the bad reviews as a way to prepare yourself for any issues that may arise -- and you now have the luxury of trying to plan for them in advance so that they might not happen to you or your guests after all! I still heart tripadvisor.com, but if you feel like it's causing you more stress than good, I'd say maybe don't check it out as often, and rest assured that your wedding will be FABULOUS nonetheless!

tripadvisor is good for one thing --- seeing 'real' photos of the resort/hotel you are planning on going to.

if you know how to decipher reading the reviews of the resort they can be helpful...but you can't take every persons word for granted. some people honestly complain about the most petty things it's unreal.

go on the message boards and post questions and ask like on here. you will get a better idea of what the place is like.

just remember more people will go online to say something negative before they will take the time to say something positive.

plus you can't make everyone in your group happy so if you hear someone complain on your trip, just say something positive back. ex. oh the food here is really salty, say yest but the desserts are delicious. i always find people who are negative have a hard time going on and on if i'm boosting about how great everything else is.

I agree with the above comments -- most people don't even bother with a review unless they had an exceptional experience (mostly bad). Some of them are funny though... like their whole vacation was ruined by a scratch in the paint. Don't worry it -- you will be with your friends and loved ones and everyone will have an amazing time! How often do you get the most important people in your life all together for an amazing vacation? It will be great.

LOL I agree! Sometimes the bad reviews are just funny to read. My fiance and I started reading them just to see what people complained about. Sadly, what we saw most.. was that people complain about portion sizes.. its like... you reaaaaaaally need MORE food at once. Everywhere I have gone, they give you plenty of food. And that is all you have to get online and rant about? Just weird. :)

I was thinking the same thing about trip advisor just the other day. Our resort always has a mixed bag of reviews but I believe someone wrote before...the majority of the people that do trip advisor or rate the hotels are those that had bad experiences. We all have the power to create our own positive expereinces and I will not let a late check-in or someone not serving me first result in a "horrible, worst experience ever" kind of trip. We are heading to countries that don't have as much as ours...have a little patience and enjoy the surroundings! :) Thanks for posting this and for all the other positivity out there! I love optimism and the power of positive thoughts!

Trip Advisor Sucks

Trip Advisor refuses to remove our business from their listing. We have specifically directed them to do so almost every day, but they refuse. No justification is given just a statement that they will not do so even the business closes. This is unacceptable and we encourage everyone to avoid using this service.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
