Two Stories in One (Kinda long)

Recommended Posts

Matt is the love of my life and I only had to travel half way across the country to find him. I thank God every day for blessing me with such a loving, faithful, compassionate man.

How We Met

I was living in Ontario and Matt was living in New Brunswick. The company I was working for decided to set up an office in NB and had previously hired Matt as the network guy for that office. The company asked me to travel to NB to help with the training at the new location with some other coworkers as well. Matt was a really cool guy who took us all around the town to show us what there was to do in Fredericton. (he had lived here his entire life) He was super awesome and friendly but I didn't think of him in a romantic way. Although attractive, I didn't think he was my type or that I was his, for that matter. Anyhow, the last day of that trip I was preparing to catch my flight and had made my rounds saying bye to folks. Matt come by and asks to speak to me. We went into the office I was using and he closed the door. Matt says to me.. "Thanks for going to the movies with me." and I reply "No, thank you for inviting me. If it wasn't for you a bunch of us would have just sat at the hotel so it was nice to get out." Then, before I knew it Matt grabbed my scarf and pulled me into him and kissed me. WHOA!! (talk about the power move!) After a second of enjoying the kiss, I actually pulled away and said "I'm flattered. Maybe under different circumstances." and I walked out of the office, got into the rental car and headed for the airport. On my way there I got a text message from Matt that said "I would have regretted it forever if I hadn't" I thought to myself "who IS this guy??"

Shortly after that trip my company said they needed me to go back to NB and in fact, I had to make several trips back. During those trips Matt and I spent more time together and I really began to have strong feelings for him. I knew he was someone special. However, every time one trip ended I would get on the plane not knowing if I was going to be back to NB. That killed me!! I would cry every time I got on the plane because I didn't know if I would see Matt ever again. Matt wasn't planning on moving to Ontario and I wasn't planning on moving to New Brunswick. Eventually though my boss spoke with me and said that things were not going well in NB and they needed someone more permanent on site and asked me who I thought would be the best person. The answer was easy... me. 2 weeks later I was living in New Brunswick.

The Engagement Story

Fast forward 4.5 years... I was getting a little restless with Matt not proposing. We talked lots about getting married but he had some family issues and didn't want to face having them all together for the wedding day. After lots of talking and his family saying not to let the minor family squabbles get in the way, Matt decided it was time to propose. He met with a jeweler who custom made a sapphire gem into a white gold setting with mini diamonds on the side. He had the ring in the house for a week and I had no clue. (Matt isn't usually good with secrets.) In fact, it was the week in July when my best friend was visiting from Ontario and he had shown her but she gave me no clue! Anyhow, his plan to was to propose while my best friend was there but I had no clue and kept messing up his plans. He tried once more by trying to get us to go to Hopewell Rocks before my friend & her daughter had to catch their plane. Not knowing that he was trying to plan the proposal I gave him a hard time saying that we didn't have time and they would be late for their flight. (at this point he had the ring sitting the glove box of the car and I still had no clue) Anyhow, we went to the airport and my friend was off. I was a little teary because I really missed her. Matt again said "why don't we go for a walk at h

Hopewell Rocks" I sensed this was important to him but never thought it was because he wanted to propose. So I agreed and we headed down there. Unfortunately that plan was about to be foiled too! We got there and our usual location to enter was locked! Matt must have been totally frustrated after holding on to the ring that long. So, we just sat in the car and he said "we have to talk" and at first I thought that was the set up to something we are going to fight about. I was preparing to fight (we had an issue with his cat earlier in the day...) and I wasn't really listening to what he was saying until he pulled a ring box out of the glove box of the car and then I thought "OH WOW, he's going to propose". And he did. Now we're planning a DW in Jamaica for November 2010.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
