One would expect more from the MOH, and it's not like the price suddenly skyrocketed so didn't she know what she could afford 2 months ago?

To be fair though, maybe something came up financially OR I learned through my wedding that some people are embarrassed to say they can't afford something when other people can so they play along as long as they can.

Either way I hope she can come up with the money and stay with you guys. It's very generous of you to be paying her airfare by the way :o)

I agree with this whole post Natasha.

However, you should say, "You know, the room was reserved for you and someone will have to pay for it. I will do everything that I can to fill it so you're not on the hook, but I need to know no later than XXX date so there isn't any confusion as to whether you do or don't want the room and so that there is enough time to try to find someone to pay for it."

You don't want her to waffle back and forth on it only to say three months out that she doesn't want it and you won't have time to fill it because I seriously doubt she'll be kind enough to pay for it.

I think there may be more to this than what she is telling you. I would try talking to her about it. It would seem odd that she would want to stay in another hotel by herself. Does she have a hotel roomate? I can't imagine that a female would want to be in a hotel by herself in another country. But hey who knows, maybe she really does have financial problems and she is just to embarassed to talk about it.

Can you afford to pay the difference of the room cost from the cheaper hotel to your hotel? That may be a solution, especially if you will have to pay for the room anyway, some money is better then no money!
