Anyone else having this problem?

Recommended Posts

I'm having the same problem, people RSVP'd then when I'd actually ask them to book they'd back out. A lot of people are waiting until after the holidays too so come January, they're mine :)

I don't have any of my immediate family coming, I really didn't realize what I was getting into with this!! Patience is not my strong suit but my FI is just happy if we're there so I'm trying to take his light hearted attitude :)

We are getting married on July 17th too! :) Only my my FI and I are bookedas of yet. Everyone else is waiting till after the holidays. Unfortuantely Moon Palace had sale rates that ended November 30th. So the rates have gone up since we booked AND they are stating that the lowest priced rooms are Sold Out (which I don't believe since we can still find them on Orbitz). SO....never the less....I feel your pain!

Hang in there....one day in the coming month or so you will have a rush of them book all at once! :)

We only have 10 booked (including us) so far and the wedding is in May. FI's brother and sister should be booking soon so that's 4 more but ppl always wait till the last min. I just hope not too many decided to come after the RSVP date in March otherwise they might not have an OOT bag.

I would be careful, and read this thread orbitz-expedia beware. It says Orbitz will keep offering rooms even if they are sold out and when you get to the hotel you might be switched to another hotel. I would hate for your guests to be sent off to another hotel.

I have been able to book 28 adults and 9 kids (inaddition to myself, my FI, and our photographer) already and my my wedding is not until next December! BUT the only reason that we were able to do that is because kids are free at the resort right now but our TA promised us that this would not be the case past our quote period, which ended December 10th. So most of the people that put down deposits were our immediate families who know for sure they are coming, and those with kids. We really stressed to those bringing kids that they needed to book NOW. And even then we had to bug and remind people. Our quote period was about two weeks long and I told our TA that this was not long enough, especially right before Christmas (and also we had JUST chosen a resort so most people didn't even know where we were going at that point!) but she told me that no matter how long the quote period was that it wouldn't matter, everyone books on the last day anyways. I scoffed at this but it was so true! Of the 28 that booked, only 2 sent in their deposits before the last day! Geesh.

So we feel like we are off to a good start, but are still expecting maybe another 20 (childless) adults to book. And I have a feeling that unless I have another "hook" to get them to put down their deposits right away by a certain date, they will take their sweet ass time to fork over their money and commit to the trip! I'm sure this will be frustrating for us, but at the same time I can't totally blame them - I mean, who wants to part with their money any sooner than they have to?
"Sweet ass time" is hilarious to me!! But it is so true and I really don't understand why people do it. If you know you're going to go and you have the money, just pay it and move on. It's so frustrating. I'd rather someone just say they're not going as opposed to say they're going and wait until the last minute to confirm. I had people trying to pay at 11:30pm on the day the money was due. I said ok it's bad enough you're waiting until the last day but wouldn't common sense say you should at least try to pay during business hourshuh.gif?

people do annoy you by not rsvp ing.i think people do tend to hold out ill nearer the date however i also think that just because the time of year im guessing some people may wait until after the new year to book.

Most people wait to see if they get better deals. I had 6 people book in November and our wedding is in January and all the rest booked last February when I knew and they knew the prices would be the lowest. People are people and you cant do anything to get them to book. Most people get frustrated that the prices continue to go up. I tried to let them all know numerous times that... the earlier they book the better and you can always cancel! But only a few listened!

Lol, yes that's leaving it a little late!!! I had similar problems on the day our money was due in that to actually put down the deposit people had to actually fax in their credit card number with a signature. We knew that the faxing thing would be a PITA but made it very clear to people that this was required so make sure to figure out a way and leave yourself time to do it! Sure enough, deposits were due by 8pm and we were getting calls at 7pm... "uh, I don't have a fax machine, what should I dohuh.gif". Geesh! I ended up paying for a bunch of extra deposits myself and then having people reimburse me later.

I honestly can't even imagine trying to do this without a TA cause even with one there is an awful lot of hand holding going on!

I have noticed this trend and it is frustrating my wedding is in April and NO ONE has booked their reservations except for us. I am trying to light a fire under my guests but they just don't get how close the wedding actually is.

People don't realize how crazy booking last minute can make you. Most of my guests,30, paid deposit on deadline day. We are going in 8 weeks and had a couple people book recently and still have about 10 people that said they were coming that have not booked. I assume they will not come. Fortunatley my family and FI familt have booked, just some friends that have not (best man and groomsmen)

We just have to make the best of the situation:)

    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
    • My sister has done it but with the destination wedding, only super close family members and friends came since it was expensive and farther. It was great though.
