Need home flooring advice

Recommended Posts

We just bought our first home & we are redoing the flooring. Currently it has old carpet. We are going to carpet the bedrooms next week & tile the rest of the house in a few months.

I'm trying to decide where all we want carpet. We are definitly doing carpet in the master bedroom & then tile in the master bath. Inside the master bath is a walk-in closet. I'm not sure if I want carpet or tile in there.

We are going to put the electric radiant heat pads under the tile in the bathroom. We could extend that into the closet which might be really nice. You could step out of the shower to a heated floor that warms you up & then remain warm while getting dressed in the closet. I imagine the closet will serve as a dressing area, because all of our dressers & clothes will be inside it.

There is a heat/ac vent in the closet, so it would not be icy-cold if we did carpet & no heat.

I'm pretty unsure what to do so I thought I'd post here for some feedback. I'm working on figuring out the difference in cost for tile vs carpet in the closet. Thanks!

I would go with tile all the way thru, because it is attached to the bathroom. It will be easier to clean, cause less dust in the bathroom, and if there is ever a flood it would cause less damage. With tile it is also easier to roll things around, in case you wanted to add a dresser/trolley or something in there with wheels on the bottom. Good luck, have fun. I love renovating!

I am in th industry of getting homes ready for market and I also buy older homes and renovate them for resale... Go tiles through.. here is the reason, very clean, closet are the worst for dust because things sit in there collecting it. Tile floor you'll sweep through with your vacuum and mop much easier... Go carpet and you have to stop and change the setting or the head of the vacuum for that small area, pain in the butt.... You'll love the look of tile it will make both areas look bigger.

thanks for all the advice. I realized that it was going to be a PITA to try to get my money back for the carpet install in the closet, so I just had them do it. It wasn't very expensive because it's not a huge area.

It's kind of nice because now I can get the tile quotes with & without doing the closet & decide then. I'm leaning towards heated tile in the closet if it's not too expensive.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
