Question about marriage blessing..

Recommended Posts

Hello ladies..

So Cain and I did a legal wedding in Cabo, since he comes from a very religious family we talked about having our marriage blessed. OK so I'm non-denominational and Cain is Catholic. How would that work? And when do you think would be a good time to do it, maybe our 1 year anniversary?

(of course) Paul's family is super religious as well, Irish Catholic, and they've asked when/if we're going to do this. i siad it was up to Paul - but he hasn't expressed too much interest. if we did it it would be for his parents.

but tammy - would the catholic church bless our marriage if we were divorced? this was a question i had.

To my knowledge if you were married in a catholic church then no they won't bless your marriage since you were married before. But since I was married in a Lutheran church for my first marriage, the catholic religion doesn't recognize that. So we should be ok.

Ann, the church will want you to have your first marriage annulled. Especially now with this Pope. He is extremely strict about the laws of the church. He has come down really hard on this subject. If you are divorced, no sacraments, and if you know someone at mass is receiving sacraments after a divorce, he expects you to report them to the priest or Bishop! Buzz and I are Catholic and are not supposed to be allowed. Can you imagine? I wonder what the Man Upstairs thinks about all of these man made laws?

Off my soapbox...anyway, I hope this helps. Paul's family should be aware of this, but they may be expecting you to apply for the annullment. Tammy, the same for you. The priests really have no leeway on this at all. And annullments are expensive.

Cains Aunt got married a month before us, she was married by her then husband's ordained judge, and for her second marriage they said it was fine because she was never married as a catholic. Could it depend on how strict the church is that you go to?

that's what i had thought. but that's the one thing i told Paul i won't do - i won't get my first marriage annulled (sp?). i don't want to start a religious debate, but i just feel that if they (the church) can't accept me for who i am, and i am divorced, then i don't want any part of it. i won't pretend like it didn't happen - it did, i am not ashamed of it, and i am who i am partly becuase of it (along with the rest of my past). so ... this may not be happening for us!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
