Cake from Costco or Sam's Club?

So, I am having a hard time coming to terms with spending $9 and upwards per slice of cake for my wedding. I know that here in the US you can order wedding cakes and/or cupcakes from Sam's Club and I think Costco too.

I was wondering if any of you ladies used either of these places for your wedding cake or if you knew of a hidden gem in Cabo that was more reasonable in price?

Thanks!

Nicole

I know completely not useful info but i know here in PR Costco and Sam's Club do not make the cupcake kind. They do however make the 3 tiered cakes etc but they dont use fondant just like a whipped topping. So i guess a limited amount of what you can get done in the US but still probably a viable option.

I always purchase these cakes for my sons bday's and actually contemplated purchasing it for our wedding lol! if it weren't because of a hidden gem found through a friend locally I would've! :)!

Hi Nicole. $9/pp...ouch!!!!!!! That is pretty expensive! We are getting aour cake made by Jennifer Hatton (aka The Dessert Diva)....we are getting a 3-layer, dual flavor cake and it is $4.75/pp. We had our cake tasting with her @ her home last month and let me tell you her flavors are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! Back in June we had a cake tasting of another very popular baker in Cabo and we were not impressed with the flavors....could not distinguish one flavor from the other. Here is Jennifer's contact info if you are interested.

Hi Liz,

I acutally did do a tasting with Jennifer Hatton (and loved her cakes by the way), but she is a direct vendor through the Hilton and therefore for the cake and serving fee it is $9.00pp. I asked the Hilton if I could bring in my own cake and they will still charge me $4.00pp just to serve it! It is just so frustrating. sad.gif I have since been looking into cupcakes, which my guests can help themselves to, in order to get away from the serving fee to save some money. I never saw myself with cupcakes for my wedding, but I think that is all I am going to be able to afford. It is just frustrating. sad.gif

If all else fails honestly Nicole don't worry about it.. Your guests are there for both of you.. They wont care about the cupcakes! But if you want to add a touch of something, and still keep the budget in check, maybe you can set them up in nice little clear style boxes with a ribbon, or use those decorated cupcake cups, or stack them up in a 2-3 tier style way etc.(they sell the stands for cheap at Target and other cheaper ones online) to give them a tad of presentation.

Nicole I don't know if you plan on having other desserts at your wedding but from what other brides have mentioned on this forum, many of them who had cake had a lot leftover because no one ate the cake. Maybe you can get a small one for the cake cutting and feeding and have the desserts that are already included for your guest as "the cake"

Ohhhhh noundecided.gifundecided.gif sorry to hear about the frustration....yes, that would drive me crazy!!!! This is the main reason why we wanted to have our wedding at a site were we would be able to choose our own vendors. Awww Nicole there is nothing wrong with cupcakes. I am sure that whatever you decide to go with it will still be amazing!!!!!! Don't let this little set back ruin your daysmile03.gifsmile03.gif

Hi Ladies,

Thank you for your love, support and advice! I promise to not let the cake get the best of me. I was able to negotiate the serving fee with the Hilton down to $2.00pp if I bring in a cake from an outside vendor (they are going to charge me $2.00pp if I bring in cupcakes or a cake so I am going for the cake!). Now the hunt is on for the perfect cake. I have contacted Deena at Sweet Dreams and hope to hear back from her soon. Wish me luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
