Searching for a photographer

Recommended Posts

I found mine through a shortlist that someone posted on this site of photographers they had checked out and ended up getting the one that they were going with!

Is the link. It's not an extensive list I just didn't know where to start and loved having a list to check out first!

You can also read some photographer reviews posted on the forum which I found really helpful as well.

Everyone has given great tips so far! Best thing is to find people who have used a photographer before and get recommendations. Very helpful to have a forum like this to ask the opinions of past brides who have used photographer on this board. I agree to say that there are some really talented photographer in the vendor marketplace. Just figure out your budget and start e-mailing some of those vendors and you can see what you can afford. I know there are some free give-aways in the vendor marketplace and other photographers looking to build their portfolio and giving discounts to their first few DW brides. Go give it a look!

It sounds like photography is very important to you - I can totally relate!

When I picked my photographer I thought I was going to the Dominican Republic, and to be honest there just are not a lot of great local photographers in the DR! So I started looking into bringing a photographer... looked at some of the vendors on here, and photgraphers who had shot other brides wedding pics on here that I liked. To be honest, I started getting a little overwhelmed with my options - I mean do you know how many great photographers there are in North America!?!

So I narrowed down my search to my local area because I figured if I was going to bring someone with me to stay with my wedding group at our resort and be such a huge part of my wedding, I want to meet this person and make sure I like them! Also, a bonus would be that someone local to me could also do our engagement shoot. I just started searching online (google, etc.) for Vancouver photographers and absolutely fell in love with Michael Wachniak's work. AND he fits my budget (well, close enough, lol). Plus he's a really nice guy, super enthusiastic, and very reasonable and flexible.

I would say that you should investigate local photographer options once you pick your location. But if that doesn't pan out, see if you can find a good photographer in your hometown that you can bring with you, or search the forum for photographer vendors (we have some very talented ones!) or who other brides have used and recommend. Keep an eye out too to see if any other brides are bringing a photographer to your resort or area around the same time you will be there as you might be able to split travel costs and save you both $$ on a great photographer!

Good luck with your search :)

Welcome and congrats Amy!! Many brides find destination photographers on Beach Weddings & Destination Weddings in The Caribbean website, especially if you are going to the Caribbean or on Google. Then make sure to check out their sample galleries onteh own websites. You really want soemone with experience with travel, sunset locations and wedding timing. Most of all, someone who you "connect" with because they will be with you the entire day and you want to have fun ! :) Best wishes and happy planning.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
