What I would and wouldn't do again...

What I would do again

* Destination wedding. Serioulsy, it was the best decision!

* Private outdoors reception. It was gorgeous and something new and different. And there is just something about dancing underneath the stars that is special.

* Mugs for our guests. Everyone used them and I thought that was really neat.

* Buy a second dress! I really hated my frist dress so I'm very happy I bought the second one. I LOVED it!

* Hire a DJ. He was amazing and I didn't need to worry about a thing!

 

What I wouldn't do again

* I don't think I would have put everything into the OOT bags that I did. Although people used them and loved them, I really think they would have been just as happy with the mugs only.

* I wouldn't have stressed so much! Dang, if I only knew how perfect it would turn out I wouldn't have worried so much

* I wouldn't bother with a veil! I didn't end up wearing it anyways because it was SO windy!

* I would NOT have gotten a pedicure at the resort. My pedicure from before we left was still perfect and the resort didn't have very many colors available.

What I would do again:

1. The Riu Ocho Rios - was perfect for our group!!

2. Destination wedding - wouldn't change that for the world!

3. Be RELAXED on wedding day and not let little things bug me out

4. Semi-private reception at Mammee Bay restaurant

PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING!!!!

 

What I wouldn't do again:

1. Let Reggie be in charge of bringing the camcorder, etc (he forgot tapes)

2. OOT bags - nobody used anything in them except for the mugs

3. Personalized travel mugs - the combo of the sunscreen & heat melted off the personalized logos... I should've just bought plain, blank ones for less than half the price!

Well the dress is long gone - the bride I sold it to got married in November. i wonder if she kept the dress or sold it to a third

Where did you get your mugs from? I never thought of this so I'm wondering which ones to avoid.

I thought I would add mine too.

 

Of all the stuff we did, I wouldn't change a thing.

 

1. Everyone LOVED our Welcome Bags. We ordered Land's End canvas beach bags for each couple and put inside two beach towels, a currency converter, magazine, stamped postcard, frisbee, Bert's Bee's lip balm, Bert's Bee's After Sun Soother, water, snacks, and a little mesh pouch with Advil, bandaids and Neosporin and each bag also contained a personal handwritten letter with a personal itinerary for each guest including their pick up time for their airport shuttle.

 

2. The fireworks were SOOOOOO worth the money.

 

3. Vari, Juan Carlos, the Hilton (yes, even the Hilton) the Welcome Dinner restaurant, the transportation company (we provided R/T airport shuttles for all our guests as well as the bus for the Welcome Dinner.) Wouldn't change any of it.

 

4. We spent a FORTUNE on the food, open bar and cocktail party. I wouldn't change a thing!

 

 

Now that I look back though, there are a couple of things I wish I added.

 

1. I should have had a bucket of bottled water on the beach near the ceremony site. It was really hot and although we had the cocktail party before the ceremony (so people would have already had something to eat and drink) and I placed hand held paper fans on the chairs, and we put umbrellas, people were still hot.

 

2. I wish I added a basket of toiletries in the bathrooms with deoderant, hairspray, powder, tampons, etc. We were all sweating so much, a little deoderant would have been nice.

 

3. I also wish I had added paper hand towels in the bathrooms (with our logo on it) and cocktail napkins for the cocktail party (with our logo on it.)

 

4. Cigars would have been a nice touch at the end of the night too. And of course, I would have ordered matchbooks (with our logo on them.)

My wedding is coming up soon!! My fiance and I can't decide on whether or not to have hors d'oerves served at our cocktail/afternoon reception. Our wedding is early in the afternoon, we have a dinner reception planned for the early evening, and we are worried that no one will eat at the cocktail reception, and that the money will go to waste.

 

For those of you who had early afternoon weddings and cocktail receptions, did you have hors d'oerves, and were they consumed?

Here in NY, the cocktail party is the BIGGEST part of the wedding. Most people prefer the cocktail hors d'oerves over the reception dinner. So I made sure we had a big cocktail party at our Cabo wedding (since our guests are from NY.) But we changed it up a bit and had the cocktail party before the ceremony. This way everyone could have something to eat and drink before heading to the beach for the ceremony. And then it gave them a little time to digest before the dinner. We had a pretty elaborate cocktail party (by Cabo standards) for the 33 guests that we had. We had 3 stations (Mexican, veggies/bread, and cold seafood) and 8 different passed hors d'oerves. Everyone LOVED it and ate everything.

And then after the ceremony, as everyone headed up to the reception area, we had some more hor d'oerves and some gucamole and chips served to everyone while they waited for us to take pictures and then start the dinner.

I didn't feel it was a waste of money. I HATE going to weddings where there isn't enough food (or bad food) and you leave still hungry. So I felt I would rather stuff our guests than not have enough food. I hope this helps.
