Torn with THE DRESS @1 mo till wedding..

Recommended Posts

I could go on and on about the story of how everything came about to what and how it is at this point but ill keep it short and give you guys the cliff notes version of it. At the beginning of the engagement i bought a dress at David's Bridal. I never thought of it as the one(you know the tears etc.) just said "huh this looks pretty good". In all honesty out of all of DB dresses this was the best one and trust me i tried all of them on! I always avoided going to the little bridal boutiques here in PR because everyone warned me about their high costs etc and well honestly i just couldn't dish out more than 1K for a dress because it wasn't in our budget. Fast forward to the present i have tried on my dress numerous times. I still haven't gone to one fitting and the wedding is January 17th and still haven't gotten that antsy feeling of loving the dress. FI set up an appointment at one of the little bridal boutiques in hopes that we could find a prom dress type thing or a very nice dress looking bridal dress( if thats even a term) to wear in the AHR in NY. Since the venue changed and we need it to be a bit more formal than the dress we used in the TTD. After i went in the store(it looked quite expensive lol!) she proceeded with me upstairs where she started to show me dresses. I told her my budget and she showed me a style that I wasnt quite sure would work. Since it was in a book she took out a bridal dress so that i would try it on and see if the top part of the dress would suit me. I took one look and started balling I didn't want to take the dress off sad.gif.. Its so light and comfortable and simple and well me sad.gif. It dont think i would change a thing about it.. I couldn't believe the feeling that came over me when i tried the darn thing on. I think she probably started thinking i was crazy insano or some type of a wack job case so I proceeded to tell her the whole story of my wedding dress. And right now im torn. As of right now the lady's sample is an 8(it's right out of the bag they just got it in yesterday) and perfect on me every which way. But it costs $1200. How do i justify this to myself .. I know i can always try and sell the other dress but David's Bridal dresses sometimes seem unrealistically hard to re sell. For those of you who became 2 dress brides how did you do it budget wise? FI is a sweetheart he doesn't care either way but with us trying to purchase our first home soon and having to deal with all the wedding costs ourselves I just cant seem to get my mind off the guilt of the money spent.

Thanks for listening and im sorry for the ramble!

I think you should get the dress that you want- the one that makes you happy- I know that is easier said than done (money wise) but you could still try to sell the David's dress, or even try to sell "the" dress after the wedding to offset the costs.

Just my 2 cents :)

You should ask the Bridal store about a discount since you will buy the dress off the rack - I got 10% off mine because of that. You could also have it custom made by landy bridal or light in the box. Personally I haven't ordered from either but I keep seeing great reviews. That way you get THE dress for ALOT cheaper. Im sure you could sell the DB dress either here or another site online - but it may take a while (maybe sell your ttd dress too). Also have you tried searching the dress online to see if it is anywhere for cheaper? Also you might want to call around to the other booutiques -they might have it on sale. Good luck - Ultimatly you should get the dress you love - just skimp somewhere else.

Get the dress. You love it, clearly. Use the other one for your TTD. It's a bit over your budget but it's not crazy expensive either and if your FI is okay with it I say go for it. Now that you've tried it on you wont be able to get it out of your head and the first dress is not going to feel the same to you anymore. Just do it- stop feeling guilty and torturing yourself- wear it and enjoy it. Congrats on finding "the one."bunny_4.gif

I like the idea of having it made by someone else for a much cheaper price, but do you have time give that your wedding is in January? Not sure how long it would take to recreate, but it's a good idea! If that's not possible, honestly, I say go with the dress that you really want. It's your one day to shine, when all eyes are on you!

Good luck!

i did,nt have the "this is the one" feeling and if you read other threads on here lots of other brides did,nt either.but you need to be happy with your choice.i would try and remember why you brought the one you already have as you got it for a reason.however if you are going to regret it i would get your other dress at any cost.you need to be happy with no regrets on the best day of your life.

Yup its in January 17!! bunny_4.gifand I don't think ill have time to recreate it although i have sent a request for a rush quote JIC. Im not at work today so my mind is racing with thoughts.

**Shellk- I've read that in a few threads and quite frankly had given up on the idea of getting "the one" feeling until today. The original idea of a dress was, it fits the budget and it looks good SCORE! After doing the TTD and feeling so awesome in something that was ME I don't know if ill have regrets getting married in something that quite frankly i feel doesn't depict who I am.

Urgh hope this all makes sense. OMW now to the store again with one of the bridesmaids wish me luck in making a decision wish I had pictures to show you gals but this boutique is one of those that doesn't let you take any pictures of the dress until you purchase it. sad.gif

I fully understand... I am in the same situation... I found the dress that I fell in love with but its 2400 and I would need alterations... And well that is not in the budget so I settled for the dress in David Bridal, affordable and my mom and sisters liked it.... I say go for the dress you love.... I say spend the 1200 and get it, it would make the day so much better...

I hope you got the dress. When it comes to buying your home you wont not get the one you want because you spent that money. If someone got sick youd find that money to be there (trust me ive just done it) You can make that money back its not lost forever.Your memories of your wedding dress will last a life time.Just another thought the car might need money spent on it the washing machine may need replacing. You would have to find the money for these things find the money for your dress and recoup some of it after by selling it.Your creating memories wink wink !!!

    • Hi Brides! I have a Wally Bag - 66" available - $90 + shipping (US only) The wally bag typically sells for $120-$180. I used this gown bag once to transport my dress from MN to Mexico for our wedding - IT WAS PERFECT!   I was actually able to pack 4 additional maxi dresses, and my husband's wedding attire, plus a few pairs of shoes and some jewelry. I packed the dress the night before we left, and just moments before we left, I zipped the bag and folded it - ready for travel. It comes up with a nice over-the-shoulder strap, making it really easy to carry through the airports. No issues on Delta with the bag as my carry-on - I chose to put in the overhead bin, but the flight attendant did offer to hang it in the closet for me. Once we got to the resort, about 10 hours after I first folded the bag, I unpacked the bag and my dress was perfect - no wrinkles! My dress was mostly lace and had a bit of a train, but it arrived perfectly!  Honestly, this is the best way to travel with your dress!
