I bought an orchid stem from Hobby Lobby in the US and a variety of feathers (different lengths/sizes) at a fabric store here in Toronto and I am planning to make my own feather/flower fascinator.

I think the way to tackle this is to start with the base. I am planning to buy some white felt or something a bit stiffer and then carefully attach (with a glue gun) the feathers of varying lengths and then 3 orchid blooms.

Lastly you will have to attach the clip that will hold it in your hair to the base.

I bought extras of everything in case I need to start with a 'practice' one! rofl.gif

I'll let you know how it goes when I finally get started!

I too have been planning on doing this! Now if I could only decide what I want it to look like I could start on it :)

At the moment I'm making flower/feather fascinators for my bridesmaids.

For that I bought magnolias at Michaels and really pretty buttons to replace the center of the flower, sewed that together, cut out a few tulle petals for the bottom, bought two different kinds of feathers to glue underneath the flower so they'll look like leaves and those other feathers that on have a little piece of feather at the end of little strand of feather (this doesn't make sense does it!) and I got firm strong felt from Michael's as well.

Then I bought aligator clips to glue to the felt, I made one test one that doesn't look too bad, it's smart to get too many as the first one isn't what I want so I'm tweaking it a bit.

Good luck ladies! I should post a picture when I'm done, I still need to figure out where to get the proper netting for my veil :)

I knew you ladies would provide some direction!! This is a great start and thanks for introducing me to the idea of 'feather/flower fascinators' - I was not familiar with the lingo at all!

Anyway, I plan to do a combo...the feather/flower with a cage veil. I decided that I didn't want the traditional veil (or at least that's my current stance!! --we'll see what really happens!)

Thanks again ladies & good luck to you all!

Nadia,

Since we're in the same general area, I thought I'd share -

The only place I was able to find the netting for the bc veil in Toronto was down on Queen West in the fabric district (just west of Spadina). I went to Sussman's Bridal and they only have 9" width, so I'll have to sew two pieces together to get the full veil effect.

I'll let you know how the veil making process goes!

Amygirl1169 & Kittengirl thanks for passing on those gems of information! I will cover the West-end and let you know if I am successful!! I'm so excited to start with sample and see if it turns out as good as I'm imagining in my head!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
