I just checked with Yinette and either this is not the case, or they are not enforcing it.  The fee did go up to $70, but they still allow outside photogs.

Oh and FYI ladies - if you did not get approval to bring an outside photgrapher onto the resort in 2013, you will not be able to. Be sure to bring this up to the wedding coordinator!!! I fortunately got Yinette to agree to let me bring my photgrapher on the resort for $50.

Hi all!

I am almost an official Ocean Blue and Sand bride. It's hopefully going to be August 08, 2013! I also have the pricing guide for 2013 if anybody needs it. Now, civil vs. symbolic ceremony is the question of the day. I would like to do both! Has anybody heard of the judge and one of your guest who you want to do the ceremony collaborating? We would like our friend to start off, us do our vows and then the judge do his bit in Spanish!

I also considered having the symbolic ceremony at the beach preformed by our friend and then after we o away for pictures have the civil ceremony in the gazebo with our parents and siblings. Anybody done this already or considering it? Thanks for all your help ladies.

Turns out this is what the judge says:

Dear
Friends and Family,
We are gathered here today with the objective of uniting in a civil marriage Sheri and Edward who
have decided to change their civil status from single, to the honourable status of being married.
Marriage is an institution; it is an admirable status which has its origins in the solemn contract celebrated
between one man and one woman, who of their own free will… wish to marry, with the object to
love, honour and care for each other mutually.
To celebrate this marriage, it is necessary that there is no opposition, if anyone here knows of any legal
reason to prevent this event, must speak now or remain in silence forever.
Edward do you take Sheri as your legitimate wife, do you promise to love her, honour her, care for her
and protect her in the good times and the bad times, in richness and in poverty, in sickness and in
health?.
As a sign of this promise, please place the ring on Wedding finger of your bride
Sheri do you take Edward as your legitimate husband, do you promise to love him, honour him, care for
him and protect him in the good times and the bad times, in richness and in poverty, in sickness and in
health?
As a sign of this promise, please place the ring on the wedding Finger of your groom.
I, Juan Julio Rijo, official of the civil State of Punta Cana, have heard from Edward & Sheri their wish to
marry, and having heard no opposition to their marriage, having met with all the legal requirements
needed by the Matrimonial Law in the Dominican Republic, on Tuesday Decemeber 9th 2008 and in
front of the witnesses, I declare you, husband & Wife.

Hey Sorry - I looked at the Tramsat Bliss Package but ended up going with the Sand Ext. The prices for 2013 went up but my sister is a TA and she got them to honour the old rate.

Not sure if that link will work since its a pdf file.

But I just picked up the Transat Weddings Away Brochure and it was in there. It is more Hassle Free. Then again the Wedding packages at the OBS are straight forward.

While I was at Ocean Blue in Feb to plan our wedding we saw a few weddings and took notes.  The person they provide for you for a symbolic ceremony if you choose does not speak english. Yinnette had to stand there and translate.  If you are doing a symbolic ceremony choose a friend or family member to do it (I reccomend friend. I almost choose a family member then the other side got offended).  Also I think the fee to have a legal ceremony is around $800 dollars and from what I am told is a difficult process.

Hey Girlis, I need some advise!!! We would like to hire a cigar roller for our reception, the problem is they only accept cash. I am worried about having a large amount of cash for the 3 days before the wedding. I know the rooms have safes, but I know I will be stressing!!worried2.gif

Just to piggyback on this, anything you purchase from the 'extras' lists (flowers, decoration, videographer/photographer, etc) will need to be paid in cash when you get there and meet with Yinette/Ada. I was pretty worried about having that much cash on hand and couldn't wait to pass it on. But, we had no problems, the rooms had safes, etc. (We had 60 people in our group and not a single person had any issues with room safety.)

You'll be fine :) I made it a habit to ensure the safe was locked each time we left the room, just for my own peace of mind. The outcome made it worth the couple days of stress!

mcathwilde - Thanks for letting us know :)

I am having a symbolic wedding and I am not a fan of the translation but I watched some wedding videos on your tube from the wedding and it seemed ok.

I would love to get one of my friends to do it.. but I think they would turn it into a big joke and then lots of laughs hahaha...

We you married in Feb 2012? If so please let me know the details I would love to know how your day went?

Thanks

Hola Fellow Ocean Blue Brides!

Just thought I would check in! How is everyone doing with their planning?! Updates please :)

We have about 15 booked right now, and about 25-35 still left to book with only two weeks to go to our 90 day Transat deadline. Everyone keeps saying they are booking, and the travel agent has been super busy and has played phone tag with some.....but I'm getting nervous.....hope that everyone gets it in gear and booked by the deadline, otherwise the price we locked in will no longer be guaranteed and I doubt people will book if they have to pay the higher prices that seem to be out there right now...

On the upside, I am also excited the deadline is almost up - because once it expires I should have a MUCH better idea on final numbers so I can FINALLY start OOT bag shopping! Yahoo!

339 days to go!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
