Great review. We had the bonfire with s'mores set-up after our wedding. Our guests RAVED about it! I think some stayed out there until 4AM - craziness. I think you'll be happy with the Hilton. Like everywhere else, you do have to stay on top of them with details and costs. Get everything in writing and keep copies. Don't be afraid to push back either.

Jen,

I realized I never thanked you for all of the great information that you shared from your site review. It sounds like you had a productive visit and learned a lot. Have you decided where you are going to have the wedding? My FI and I are hopeless. We haven't made any of the big decisions yet. We thought we would rent a Villa (Los Flores, Punta Vista, Grande, Buena Vida), but maybe it will end up being cheaper at a resort. Anyway, thanks again for all of the helpful posts. Happy planning.

We actually ended up having some issues with the Hilton. They DO NOT negotiate ANYTHING!!! Emeline and I emailed back and forth so many times on the menu. I know it's very early to talk food, but I wanted to at least have a general idea of pricing before signing a contract with them. So I'm sure she hates me now because I fought her on EVERYTHING. She's been away since mid-July and she's not back until the 30th. So we took this time to research wedding locations in NY. Our thought process is, if we find something we like better at home, we'll do it at home. But honestly we haven't found anything better yet. I have 2 more appointments this week so we'll see what happens. But we've now pretty much accepted the fact that if we do it at the Hilton, we're going to get ripped off. But again, I know that we're also paying for the weather and the view, blah, blah, blah. I just keep reminding myself that it's the same thing as when I shop on 5th Avenue - I'm not paying for just the item, I'm paying for the rent as well. I'm ok with it. Plus I'm going to recommend the Marbella Suites at the beach for those guests that don't want to spend $300 a night at the Hilton. I think it's all going to work out now.

Our original idea was to rent a villa. But it turned out to be too expensive and not as convenient. Plus, our guest list is too large for a villa. The quote I ended up getting from the Lazy Gourmet was too high. It was over $10,000 for 60 people and that didn't even include drinks or a cocktail party. Where are you thinking now?

Yikes - I can't believe the Lazy Gourmet -outrageous. What did the 10K include? My fiance thinks we should get the villa and have a casual dinner there after the ceremony on the beach. I thought we could cater for less than 100pp and get beer, wine, champagne, and tequila at Costco. Someone recommended Denni's catering Los Cabos At Your Service - Villa Amenities / Chef Services - Denni's Catering. I haven't looked more into it yet. I have got to get on the ball!!!

As alternatives, my FI's Dad has timeshares at Bueblo Bonito Sunset Beach and Fiesta Americana, so those are options too. Sunset Beach quoted me something like 250pp for the reception which is more than I want to spend. We will likely have 40-50 people.

This wedding planning thing is getting me down.

I've heard (on this forum) that Denni's catering is pretty good. I'm sure I could have worked with The Lazy Gourmet to get the costs down but it still would have been close to $30000 for a party of 60 in the villa - so I just scratched the whole idea.

If your FFIL has a connection at the Fiesta Americana, you should look into their Imperial Suite. It's the hotels private villa. And Michelle tells me they are very willing to work with brides on the menu. You could definitely have a great dinner for less than $100 per person. I personally think that is a great choice - they just aren't available on my wedding day.

Hey Jen, thanks for the review...hmmm I wonder whom you spoke with at the Westin? I'm actually having my wedding there on April 5th, 2008 and I was quoted $329/night for my guest. I think Karla's was even a tad bit cheaper because of her date also, there is an option where for $49 bucks per person you can get two meals per day and 2 for 1 drink (I think this is non-alcoholic though)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
