Hey Jen, thanks for the review...hmmm I wonder whom you spoke with at the Westin? I'm actually having my wedding there on April 5th, 2008 and I was quoted $329/night for my guest. I think Karla's was even a tad bit cheaper because of her date also, there is an option where for $49 bucks per person you can get two meals per day and 2 for 1 drink (I think this is non-alcoholic though)
Yeah, I'm sure what they gave me was the rack rate. Plus it's for 2008 (rates go up every year.)

I haven't booked anything yet. I was planning on booking the Hilton but then we ran into some issues with their coordinator. She left for vacation before we could resolve them. She's back today though and I'm sure she's going through a TON of emails. I sent her an email and followed up with a phone call. I'm pretty sure she'll get back to me tomorrow and then we can book it.

I better get this booked soon. There's still so much to do.

Are you excited you booked the Westin?

Hey Jen, yeah I'm super excited about booking the Westin. I'm just really glad they had availability for the date I wanted as my schedule is pretty tight with school & everything. I just think it's such a beautiful place and is so colorful which is one of the reasons I chose it because it reminds me of my personality. I only hope they can pull of a great event. It gives me that south beach/art deco feel which I love. We should keep in touch and swap notes since our weddings are one day apart......I'm hoping to get save the dates out by the end of August. So far the event sales coordinator at the westin has been great...I just finalized my contract last week and am awaiting being assigned a coordinator on site. I'm working with a wedding planner & traveal agent here at home to make my life a bit easier. What all have you gotten done so far? By the way, there is a great place in Manhasset to find a wedding dress if you haven't so far....it's called the Wedding Salon...that's where I found mine. This lady named Rosemary was so sweet and helpful. I PMd Karla so hopefully she gets back to me regarding some Westin tips.....that sucks that they quoted you like five something as the cheapest room. If you go back for another site visit let me know. I'm headed down in September.

Jen - Sounds like you had a pretty successful trip. We enjoyed our wedding at the Hilton and all of our less affluent friends stayed at Marbella and loved it. It was perfect because it's a quick 5 minute drive away (though I wouldn't recommend walking - it's like a death march if you go via the beach!).

All our guests loved the Hilton and the food was excellent (we did a buffet though). The music has to shut off at 10:30pm on the terraces but then we mioved down to the beach for a bonfire ($100) which was fun. We brought an iPod to play music but honestly by then we never even started it up.

You can also serve smores down there if you'd like but again by that time everyone was so full (and drunk) that i don't think it's worth it.

Let us know what you decide!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
