We gave 2 years notice (we are half way) and we are so amazed at how many of our guests are savin/have plans in place/have already booked their leave at work!

We were actually shocked that so many people are actively planning to come (we are still too far out to book mind you, so we will see when its time to put $$ on the line) but everyone has said that they were able to put all plans in place to come BECAUSE we gave them so much notice. Our invites are going out in January (10 months beofre the wedding) then as soon as people book we are sending them a 'thankyou note' and three months out we will send a little reminder to anyone that hasn't just in case they forgot :)

    Thank god for Vistaprint!

Our wedding is also at Tensing Pen, Nov 2010. I just ordered our save the dates and plan to send them out mid Jan. I personally think you should wait a few months before sending them out unless you are absolutely sure who you are inviting. I know our guest list has changed by a few people since we booked in Sept! We told all the people we definitely wanted there as soon as we booked and the rest of the guests will get their STD's next month.

I agree...the more time the better people are able to plan. I'm getting married April of 2011 as well and if I knew of even a venue, I would send something now! But me and indecisive self...nothing *sigh*
I've booked Heather Parker for my photographer for my April 2, 2011 wedding in Ochi Rios, Jamaica. If anyone is getting married in Jamaica days before or after me and is interested sharing her travel expenses to save few wedding budget bucks, let me know. Take a look at her work for Moon Dance...

I would send mine out that soon, however I don't have enough of the info solidified in order to do that (ie: hotels)

I definitely know that I want to get married at Tensing Pen in April of 2011. People are already asking when they can put their deposits down! Especially since tax season is coming up (I know most of my family and friends do their taxes in January), I will be sending out my STD's next month while everyone has a little money in their pockets.

I am planning a May 2011 wedding. We cant book anything until March 2010. We are planning on sending our STDs in April 2010...as early as possible. I agree, the more time the better.

I might actually wait a little to do it. People get excited when they first hear about it and want to know info on booking. That far out the airlines, etc won't have pricing info. When they do have the info people won't be as excited. I know when we sent ours everyone wanted to know how much, how to book etc...

It's never too early- but don't be surprised if people want to do their own thing.

When we announced in December 2008 that we were getting married in October 2010 in Jamaica, people complained that they couldn't afford the trip. So, our wedding planner, DF and I decided to send out the invites in Sept 2009 with a detailed payment plan (Approx $75 a month) for those that have difficulty paying for the wedding in one lump sum.

Well guess what- people have decided they they will wait last minute and pay the lump sum!

This aggravated me because if this was their intention all along, then we could have wait until January 2010 to confirm everything/negotiate better prices for a October 15, 2010 in Riu MoBay.

So... don't be surpised if people do that. Just try and go with the flow.....

We had an engagement party this passed weekend...everyone knows our date is 4/2/11, but we can't get pricing yet, but they know it's coming!
