Hi ya'll

My name is Sharon from San Antonio, TX. We're just starting our planning as well. Haven't set our date yet, but we're looking at Mar/Apr 08.

We'd love to have a DW. We want to choose a tropical island that has more than just beaches and not too expensive for all the traveling guests. Right now I'm leaning toward Ocho Rios, Jamaica. But if you gals have other locations to suggest that will be very helpful. I'm sure I'll have tons of questions later, but I figure picking the spot would be the most important at this point. :)

Thanks,

Sharon

Welcome Sharon! You will get all sorts of suggestions from the ladies here - no worries! There are lots of Jamaica brides, a few getting married in Hawaii, and tons in Mexico. I was married recently in Puerto Vallarta, at a secluded beach cove called Las Caletas - it was the perfect setting for us! Let us know more about what you're looking for, and we'll do what we can! Hi Sharon! Welcome to the forum!!! I'm getting married at the Riu in Ocho Rios, Jamaica in April 08, so we potentially have a lot in common! wink.gif

I chose Jamaica for its affordability and ease of getting a US-recognized, legal wedding there. Our guests are ending up paying ~$1900 per couple (including airfare) for 4 days at the Riu.

If you have any Ocho Rios or Jamaica questions, I'm happy to share my research!!

Hi Sharon, welcome! I'm also from Texas, so I can say that flights to places in Mexico are usually not too bad, especially the Riviera Maya area which is about an hours drive south of Cancun. You would fly into the Cancun airport and then ride in an air conditioned van down to a place like Playa del Carmen, which is a beautiful area.

Although we had originally thought someplace in the Riviera Maya, we're now leaning towards Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We love it because it has the best of both worlds - beautiful beaches surrounded by lush tropical mountainsides and old world charm. We hope to travel there soon to check it out (I've been once but I was 12 - my Dad got remarried there).

Choosing a place can be fun and frustrating at the same time - lol. There are so many beautiful locations to choose from!!! If I can be of any further help, just let me know!

P.S. Oh, and we are planning on honeymooning in Jamaica! Yeah mon!

Heidi - I have NO IDEA! lol It's sooooo far away... I know there is a resort that my Dad has been to that he raves about. I'll have to ask him what it is again (I think it's in Ochos Rios...). I will def be checking y'alls reviews tho as the time gets closer! SOOO EXCITED! :)

Welcome!

I chose Riviera Maya because its very affordable for out guest. Most will be flying from Houston & you can often get $200 nonstop flights. I think our guest will pay about $650 each for a 3 night stay, but its hard to tell. Last week you could buy a package to this hotel for $400 including flight.

I also like Riviera Maya because it has both beaches & jungle. I wanted a place where we can have adventures. There is a lot of things to do in the area. My mom said she wants to ride a zipline in the jungle! I made a page of adventures on my wedding website & our guest are already really excited about the location.

There is a lot of great info on this forum & very nice, helpful people. You should be able to find just the right place to suite what you are looking for.

Good luck & let us know what you decide.

Morgan

Hi Sharon welcome3.gif

Like Ann I married at Las Caletas, PV, MX and stand strongly behind it. Since you're not decided check it out for the heck of it, it's lovely. I also honeymooned at the RIU Ocho Rios and it is quite beautiful there too. You'll find a lot of info here no matter where you end up...best wishes :o)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
