Strapless Gown- Age Inappropriate?

Recommended Posts

Actually I forgot to share a good story. I was a two-dress bride for a few months and listed the first dress which was strapless with a jacket online for sale. A 72-year-old lady fell in love with the dress after seeing it in a magazine. Her daughter contacted me and eventually we worked everything out. She wanted the dress for her 50th anniversary celebration this past weekend. So who says there is an age limit for strapless!

Just an update...I went to ty on dresses for the first time yesterday and I must say that I had a wonderful experience. The store must have had about 200 plus size sample dresses. I was very surprised. Of course..there were like 8 times as many in regular sizes, but that was a much bigger selction of plus size dresses than I ever expected.. I was even happier to say that they had many of the strapless, mermaid type gowns that that I like. I actually have three possible contenders and could not be happier. We were not allowed to take pictures so had to snap some quick photos on a camera phone. My mom brough a camera. If those pics come out okay...I will post them.

Here is the leading contender....shockingly...it looked great on...even though I have a tummy...I have no idea how that is:

I also liked the way this gown looked...it was the first one I tried on and I LOVED it. I thought that this was 100% the one...and then after trying on everything and trying this on again...I wasn't as certain. I think there is a great risk of falling in love with the first dress....it is such a high seeing yourself in a gown for the first time.

BTW...we also stopped in David's Bridal and it was a disaster. Only one dress in the style I liked in pus sizes. The rest were mostly A-line samples...hardly a thing for me to try on...

I also tried on A -line dresses and just did not like them..I felt that they made me look larger than I already am.

Both of those dresses are stunning! Definitely go with whatever feels right. I have a larger chest as well, but I am mostly looking at v-neck dresses - I think it will accentuate the right amount. I'm also not a fan of having to tug at the dress to keep it from shifting down, but I guess if it was altered correctly you wouldn't have too much of a problem. Don't let anyone change your mind once you have THE dress.

Was the first store you went to a chain store or a local store?

The dresses are beautiful and you'll look great in whatever you feel the most comfortable with. I agree to not let anyone change your mind when picking the dress that you love. I'm also an older bride - a big 56 here. I picked a V neck for myself, however, it's also a V in the back and came down too low for me, showing back cleavage, ugh, so when they cut the chifon off at the bottom to hem, they fixed it in the the back that it would drape over the exposed back. It turned out pretty nice. Good luck with your shopping and just remember that it is YOUR big day.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
