I'm also looking to have our DW at Sugar Bay at the end of may 2011. I just spoke w/ the wedding director over there he was very good at getting back to me. we set up a quick time to just go over some questions I had about the resort. I've heard other good things about Sugar Bay on here as well but am still not 100% on booking it for us. I want to get married on the beach and someone on here said it was a little rocky in certain areaas. I love the pictures I've seen of the resort tho! It seems like a lot of ppl like Bolongo Bay as well but i've heard the beach isnt as nice... Let me know what you hear!

HI,

My FI and I stayed at the Wyndham Sugar Bay back in 11/07 for a week. We really liked it and are having all our guests stay there for our July 3rd 2010 wedding. I fell in love with Magens Bay so we are having the wedding there instead of at the Wyndham. But the Wyndham was beautiful. As far as the beach goes... the actual beach part is okay, not too rocky. Its once you get down to the actual water part that gets rocky. So if you are having the pictures and stuff at the Gazebo or on the beach it should be fine, in fact some of the rocks (the larger ones) would be actually great to get some TTD pictures on. And the Balcony over looking St. Johns will also be beautiful for pictures If you are looking to do pictures in the water, its a little tricky cause there are a lot of rocks once you get close and into the water. The only thing we really didn't like was that the hot tub temperature was like luke warm, and they wouldn't raise it. We loved everything else. Hope this is helpful and congratulations.

Does anyone have reviews of the actual hotel as far as cleaniness, food and all inclusive? I was pretty set on the Marriott but the reviews are freaking me out and the Wyndham seems way more reasonable for all inclusive! any info id appreciate!

Thanks!!

Tara - We chose Wyndham bc it seemed much more reasonable! I use tripadvisor.com for reviews but honestly, i've come to find you will come across positive/negative reviews w/ any resort. Good luck choosing :)

We're not getting married there until next May - so unfortunately i don't have any pictures/reviews yet!

Thanks Beth! Yeah we are going at the end of August to stay at the Marriott haha so hopefully I will be able to decide right then...we were hoping for a relaxing 5 day getaway I don't want to be completely like wedding overload going to different hotels and such the whole time!

Are u getting married at the Wyndham too? Thats what I liked about the Marriott cause I really want the reception at Havana Blue so I figured that will be so so convenient for all my guests ya know? Plus we dont have to worry about transportation the day of!

I'm getting married at the Wyndham in March, and I'm soooo excited. We visited the resort back in May, and I fell in love with the terrace.

I've stayed at the Marriott twice, and I don't think it's anything special. The second time we stayed there they really messed up our room. The Rum Bar is nice, but you really can't get married on the beach. Havana Blue is gorgeous (as I'm sure you've read) but I'm not really impressed with the rest of the resort.

As for the all inclusive, the Wyndham's is much better. I think as of August they're only doing all inclusive and it's $499 per room - two people - and that includes all food and alcohol. They have way better restaurants than the Marriott, and I think the Marriott's was way more expensive.

I've also heard from many vendors on the island that the Marriott doesn't allow you to bring anyone in; they just jack up the price and force you to work with their vendors. I've been told that the Wyndham is much more accomodating.

Thanks Willow!

Yeah I'm thinking we are going to have to check out the Wyndham when we are there! the All Inclusive is truly what I want for guests ya know? I've heard all great reviews...Havana Blue is the true reason I want to get married on St Thomas! It looks so modern and open the exact type of reception place I want so it seems perfect. I could also just transport everyone the day of! What are the costs like for the terrace to get married at the Wyndham? That looks GORGEOUS!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
