I'm thinking we might need to find a friend who can marry us! :)
Wellllll...in my state, the marriage license is valid for 30 days from the date it is issued...we do not want to celebrate two wedding dates. And since my friend is an ordained minister, and we are not attempting to deceive the government for monetary/tax reasons or any such thing, he does not have a problem writing in the date of our ceremony in Mexico. As for if the state has a problem with it, well, I'm not asking! ha ha

I know exactly how you feel!!! I am getting married this september in Cancun but we are first going to a court house to get everything made legal. We dont want to worry about paying all the extra fees to have a legal wedding in Mexico.

At the same time I do feel like it will take away from the magic of the wedding ceremony in Cancun. BUT to counteract that I am still going to get dressed up in a pretty white dress at the court house, not a long white dress but a white dress. We are also having a dinner immediatly following the courthouse with all our friends and family. We still want it to feel like something special is happening :)

We are considering our legal wedding to be a promise ceremony just for us and are going to a nice dinner afterwards with each other.

After one person told me not to get legally married before Mexico and "it took away from the wedding" she was coming to see, we decided not to tell anyone. My sister kind of knows and so do a couple friends, but we are keeping it as our moment and our day only. We needed 2 witnesses so I asked our neighbors who have been married for 33 years and are just the loveliest people.

I think FI and I are going to go to the court house the week before we head out for Mexico. I honestly don't want to deal with getting blood drawn (I hate needles), dealing with an official officiant, etc. I was a little worried about the actual wedding not feeling as important, but, the more I've thought about it the more it just makes sense. Plus, nobody will know that we've gone to the court house. FI and I are both attorneys so I think we are going to walk across the street during our lunch break. Lol!

We are doing the same thing and getting married beforehand.  We are only telling our parents and siblings.... that is it.  Not even telling FI's kids.  This way I can get on his medical insurance, tax breadk at the end of the year and we can use my va home loan to buy a house.  I am not considering this my wedding and instead just the day we sign some paperwork.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
