hey edyta,

i wouldn't worry...what you have to realize is all of the resorts will have bad reviews...even the four seasons...there are just some people that are NEVER happy...i read these reviews when i booked so we planned a site visit and couldn't believe people had those complaints...we didn't have any issues.

we had over 50 people stay at dreams, not 1 got sick...sure it isn't the same food as what i am used to...some of it better, some of it worse but nothing that people wrote about....they tend to be disgruntled and just want something to bitch about.

ok, just went to tripadvisors and read the reviews...you have 4 really horrible reviews, the 10 great reviews...this has to tell you something.

also what they complained about...mostly was not being able to swim in front of hotel...DUH, do your research next time. you can't blame the resort for something out of their control AND something that you should have known.

Also, there was a person whose main complaint was the timeshare presentation that they went to
Quote:
The time share that the hotel offers is a WASTE OF TIME. When you get to the time share they try to FORCE you to buy
and that they checked in 2 hours later than they were supposed to...why the heck would you even go you d*mb sh*t! sorry, but that is just so retarded...

i had no problem with ants, no mold in the fridge and i was just there in late may...it was my 2nd time there. also one person stated they felt threatened by the staff....that just made me laugh...come on! they were super friendly (except for the waiter at the pool restaurant, Hector-but he was just a big grump) and that was a pretty ridiculous comment and made me feel like the review had no validity and just a person with a grudge.

also, steve's mom LOVED the resort and recommended it to her best friend for her daughters DW. my friend roger is brining his gf back down there. My sister and her friends are planning a group trip to dreams next year...they would not do this is they had a bad stay.

out of all the reviews i rad...this one was the most honest and representative of my trip...not overly glowing or harsh like the other revews.

Well, first of all I read these reviews mostly for entertainment , but I felt inspired to write. The Dreams Resort is actually not a 5 star resort but it does have a 5 star view. We went with a wedding party so some of the details of the trip were already handled for us, so our transportaiton to and from the airport was a breeze. I would first like to highlight some of the over all things about the hotel and then move into individual topics.

I think some people have to remember this is still Mexico and it is still some what of an impoverished country and things like rain will happen but generally the people at the hotel will try to help you. I was taken a bit back by a far number of employees that did not speak english but they still tried to help you.

Checking in was not a problem, you give them a credit card, they take your bags to your room and fairly quick and painless.

Rooms:

The rooms are nice, the television worked, the air conditioning is outstanding. Our room was a meat locker...However....the phone did not work and the safe was not working. The phone was fixed after 3 trip and one call to the front desk and 2 days later...The safe...well they never fixed it..They called and said we had to be in the room to fix it, but since we were not there much I just let it go. I guess that was for security reasons in case something was to come up missing. Yes, the bed are hards and the pillows are not cofmy and cozy but it is just pillows...This is not a room you would find at the "W" more Embassy Suites maybe. The room had a couch and the bathroom was stocked with nice toiletries. It is a shower tub, a big tub, and kind of high to get into. The refrigerator was always stocked with beer, water, soda, and juice, and that is unlimited as well. Some rooms are 4 number rooms...ie 2244 and some are 3 number ie 224...I think they have limited cleaning people so our room was never cleaned by 5:00 pm...Annoying yes, but our friends room was cleaned by Noon so I think it was all where you located. I found it funny cause the room would be clean say by 5 or 6 but then like 2 hours later they would come back and have a turn down service and put mints on your pillow...Nice touch but literall it would be 2 or 3 hours after the room would be clean and someone would come knocking on the door. I forgot to mention this...which I think is a great touch, the rooms have a dvd players, and you can rent dvds at the hotel. Which was excellent. Of course our was not plugged up but we managed to work our fingers back there and plug it in..Oh and they have robes and slippers in the room for you.

Customer Service:

Most people here are friendly...The conceirge was excellent. I had a problem with a tour I booked prior to arrival and he called and took care of it for me. The front desk people did not have any change or change at least a 20 into smaller denominations...So come prepared with a lot of small bills or if not you can do it in town. The bell people were extremely helpful and friendly as well. Trying to order food or drink at the pool area was a little difficult. You have to find the waiters and most of the time they are off to the side talking to themselves..The swim up bar you could get drinks at but you would have to go back into the pool and walk across. I think if I had to say if something needed to be improved, it would be more attentiveness of the waiters. I could walk across myself no problem..but not so easy for people with 2 kids in the pool or a small infant they have to always have their eyes on.

Pools:

There are 3 pools technically...THey have a big infinity pool which looks right into the ocean and drains into a shallow pool. They also have a little water slide right next to it. The chairs and the towels were comfortable...I found it funny that they actually do not give out towels when it starts to rain a little...I guess they think no one will go into the pool. The water was warm and it was clean. When we went, yes there were kids there, but hey they are on vacation too. They can not be avoided..If someone really wants to avoid kids...then stay at an ALL Adult Resort. The pool in the back is much quieter and still nice. The hot tubs are not heated would have been nice. The music at the pool was something new everyday...Sometimes...techno, sometimes very loud, sometimes heavy metal.

Food:

Yes there are flies when you eat, sometimes annoying but if you know this coming in you will be alright...They are even around when it rains...Breakfast was great, a lot of choices of foods, drinks, sweets, plenty of places to sit. They have a sushi restaraunt, an itatian restaraunt, an american buffet, a seafood restaraunt, and a grill for hamburgers and hot dogs at lunch. All the food was good and the service at the restaraunt was great. It is not 5 star food but it is good food. If you are going there for 5 star dining then maybe go into town and pay for it. This hotel is all inclusive and they try to have enough variety for everyone and everything was tasty to me. You have to sign your room and yoru name for everything you eat or drink, no receipts for you.

Things to do/Entertainment:

One of the big pluses of this hotel is that they offer a movie on the beach every night on a huge projector....So you can sit in a lounge chair on the beach, sit in the pool, sit in the bar area, or if you are lucky, look from your room and watch a movie. They have ping pong tables around and they try to organize games of beach volleyball or water volleyball or water polo everyday..There is a list of activities in the front of the hotel everyday about what there is to do and they put a list everynight in your room...SO there is no excuse for not knowing what to do or if there is something to do...They also have little things like beach walks to do. The hotel offered a 3 hour snorkel tour at a local beach for $5 with transportation. You have to get involved if you want to do something. You can ask the conceirge or they have a tour desk right there in front. If you ignore the time share people they will ignore you.

Transportation:

The hotel offers a shuttle for $6 each way into downtown but you have to decide what time you will comeback if you prepay. Basically, it is who gets into the bus first when you see the van on pick up...Sometimes it was full, sometimes you had to wait another half hour, or sometimes you just got right on. Did not do the cab or the bus so do not know about that. I think we paid $33 for the ride from the airport to the resort but I do not know if that was because of the weddingt package or what.

Extras:

The internet at the hotel was $10 for an hour so if you really want to use the net just go into town for more than half that. The drinks at the bars were good, they do not have top shelf but they do have some variety. DO not expect the same drinks you have at home either most of the drinks are basic. And it does not hurt to give a Dollar every now and then. THe people here do not expect tips and do not beg for them so to speak at other resorts, but they are appreciative. The hotel kind of has a confusing lay out but you figure it out after a while. The spa was great, robes are a little short, so bring your own from the room..The gym has a lot of cardio equipment but only one bench for free weights.

Overall a good experience...Would stay there again..No complaints really. I think sometimes people have 2 high of expectations...Remember you are on vacation...I do wish though they just had a coffee bar. Hope this helps...

Thanks Tammy, I know people complain bout the stupidest things and I know pretty much what to expect cause I've been travelling down south for some while and some places are fabulous and some aren't 2 great... I agree bout the swimming in the ocean thing, wow!! DO YOUR RESEARCH

The only thing that worried me was the whole aunts in the bed and mold and flies making it impossible to eat at the restaurants. Just sometimes you second guess yourself...I've seen your pics and they are so beautiful and I trust your judgment

Thanks for your reply

i did see ants once but not in the room...they were in the hall when someone left their room service outside. i guess you have to be smart about it. we ordered room service every night (we had poker tournaments in our suite) but always made sure to call to have it picked up and we left it outside because it is gross to just leave it in your room.

i did not see ANY mold and i am really sensitive about mold because i once got pneumonia and bronchitus from spending 1 night in a room that had mold so now i am hyper sensitive to it...to the pt my noise burns when their is any sort of toxic mold.

i went in may and did not have any issue with bees or flies on my food but you are outside so it wouldn't be too shocking. once i did find a fly in my ice tea and had to send it back

The hotel is nice. I didn't stay there so I can't comment on the rooms. I wouldn't worry, though. I think that you will be very happy with having your wedding there.

I can confirm that when we went to do our site visit, there was a very large bee hive near where we parked. I am hyper alergic to bees (Epi pen and all and I didn't have it with me) so we had to reschedule our appointment with the coordinator until I could go back and get my pen because there wasn't any way for me to avoid the bees in the parking lot.

Thanks so much ladies, I feel better now I was just having a freak out moment cheesy.gif...its so weird that yo can read 100 great reviews on a place and read one negative one and for some reason that negative one stays in your head and you eliminate everything good you heared bout the place

I completely understand your fear. I've only visited Dreams but I can safely say that it won't dissapoint. Plus there are too many people wh have gotten married/getting married from this site with nothing but good things to say.

Just in case, when we arrive I plan to tip daily. I have already been pretty vocal with my coordinator and I plan to continue as well with management. i suggest that you do the same.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
