Cabo or Puerto Vallarta????

Recommended Posts

Ladies! I need your help. We would've loved to have our wedding in Hawaii, but it is a bit too far for a lot of our guests on the East Coast. Thus, we are now considering Cabo or Puerto Vallarta to have a destination wedding. Unfortunately, I've never been to either. Have any of you been to both and which would you prefer to have a wedding?

Between the two, which has more activities for our guests, natural raw beauty, ability to get away from the cheesiness of the resort towns/areas, and better beacheshuh.gif? Which is the lesser tourist trap?

Thanks for your help!

Since you are posting in the PV thread you are probably going to get more PV's :).

With that, I've been to both places. Cabo is a desert on the ocean - so for the raw natural beauty - you are going to want PV hands down. It is more authentic Mexico - and they have beautiful green jungles, waterfalls, and of course the ocean.

PV is also less of a tourist trap for sure. You are going to find it more "authentic." I'm not saying bad things about Cabo - I love Cabo. But for what you are looking for I'm going to say PV. Cabo is a great party place, they have ATV's, lots of famous bars, good food, etc. Cabo is also more expensive because it is more touristy than PV.

Good luck! Let me know if you need any help.

Yep, PV hands-down!! You have the benefit of having a wonderful city full of rich culture & warm people, plus all of the things Jess mentioned.

Of course there are tourists & if people choose to just stay at the resort it won't matter much, but you'll get more of a true Mexico feel/experience, I think anyway, in PV if you venture off the resort & go exploring.

One thing about some of the beaches in PV, in the hotel area or near the marina they tend to be a little more rocky. We'll be farther south, at Dreams, so hopefully it'll be smoother - they're said to have one of the best beaches.

Good luck deciding! I know for us that was the hardest part.

I have been to both places but Im a huge fan of PV. Everything mentioned previously is True! There is only one swimable beach in Cabo which is why I decided to choose PV even though Cabo would have been easier for my family to get to (they are from LA). I know my east coast friends would have been pissed if they weren't going to be able to swim in the ocean. There are great restaurants in both places but PV has more of a selection in different locations (in the hills, on the beach, etc.). I researched hotels in both locations (when I was trying to make my decision) and I familiar with many of the hotels in Cabo so let me know if you need help. A friend of mine attended an awesome wedding at the Sheraton Hacienda in Cabo and I remember the pricing being very reasonable. If you need help let me know, I will try not to be biased. :)

I just made the same decision. And chose PV. I chose it because there was a lot of good properties AND there is something for everyone there. Culture, shopping, adventure tourism, golf etc. Plus I knew all of my Canadian friends and family would be pissed if they few across the continent not be able to swim in the ocean.

Everything above in respect of Puerto Vallarta is true! There's so much culture, great restaurants, cute little shops, cobble stone streets, beaches etc. It is also really safe. I have backpacked through all of mexico and puerto vallarta was hands down my favourite place! I would recommend not staying on the hotel strip though (it is older and busier) but staying at either dreams puerto vallarta in conchas chinas; in the marina area (ie. westin, velas) or in nuevo (dreams vm, rius)...

  • 2 weeks later...

I have been to both and hands down PV.....especially for the beaches.

Almost all beaches in Cabo are too dangerous to swim in.

PV has a little bit of everything from snorkeling and golf to night life and various excursions.

Also many times PV is more affordable compared to Cabo when comparing rates for rooms and flights.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
