Hi, I am a little confused about how to go about paying photographers.

I am getting married in the Mayan Riviera. The wedding will be on a Thursday, and we will be leaving on the Saturday. I don't think that is enough time for the photographer to get the prints or the edited images to us before we leave.

My problem is that i don't want to pay for a service/product that i haven't received, and then leave the country.... What if I don't receive the images/photos? (whether it's cause by lost in the mail, or photographer doesn't send..) Is it possible for the photographer to process the images quickly? or alternatively can I hold back the payment until the product is received? I don't mind leaving a credit card number with the photographer, or even with the wedding coordinator.. can someone explain the 'normal' process in a situation like this?

Most often with photographers they ask for payment in full *before* the ceremony - I'm not sure that you would be able to find a photographers willing to get paid afterward, or once you have received your images. Processing images requires a lot of work - if your photographer is able to process them in a couple of days, it's probably either because they took very few pictures or that they don't don't a very good job of retouching the images.

In all though, talk to your photographer! Let him / her know how you feel, your worries and ask your questions! It will make you feel better!

Honestly, this is pretty much how most photographers handle their business. As long as you have a signed contract, I wouldn't worry about not getting your images. I guess if you still wanted peace with it, you could check online to see if anyone has complained about not receiving their images in time.

Just an FYI, it takes a very long time to edit weddings, I always tell my clients it can take as long as 3 months. Even though I usually have them done way before then.

I require a 25% retainer to hold their wedding date. Then another payment around 4-5 months before the wedding. Then their final remaining balance is due 30 days before the wedding. I am sure they *might* be able to get your your images at the very least but if it were me, I'd also probably be charging a rush fee. I am sure this depends on the situation and the photographer so I can only speak for myself.

Wanting the payment before the wedding date is pretty standard though. If your photographer has good reviews and isn't just some random of the street I'd say you're in good hands.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
