Biggest Destination Wedding Stress factor - what's yours?

Recommended Posts

My biggest stressor is trying to plan and control things from a distance. I am a control freak, perfectionist, and very anal.

I must have things go my way or I really get nutty (so I've been told by family & fiancé). This has been a test for me because I have no real control over everything. I plan but things keep changing. I'm going to be totally stressed out when we get there because I'll be worried about the WC making the wedding visualized in my head & all it's details become a reality without any problems.

I wish I could let go... :(

I have this same problem- When it takes my coordinator 3 weeks to respond to my e-mail, only to find out that she only read half of the information I sent to her, it gets VERY irritating.

Its been the same for me, I have had to send emails twice to get a reply... also not having total control, and having my future in-laws organize hasn't been easy for me to do, I am a serial worrier!!!

I have changed my resort like 3 times because I keep worrying if it cost too much for my guest! I finally just said forget it and really how big of a difference is 80-100 dollars. If thats all that stops someone from coming then I don't think they were that invested in the first place!

@@simba1234 I totally know what you mean. I chose my brother and my friend, who has been my friend for 7 years, to stand by my side and my fiance will have his two sisters by his side. I'm hoping that one of my cousins and my best friend from childhood will be able to come all the way from Argentina. In that case of course they would be added too. I told the rest of my girlfriends the situation and that even though I love them to death it is a really small wedding and I don't want to make it look like people needed to wear uniforms for my wedding haha. Besides, as you said, it really creates resentment for the few people that weren't in the bridal party. I've seen it happen before at another wedding.

I'm stressing out over the fact that I sent e-mail save the dates with a link to the booking page and to our website with all the instructions on how to book, but apparently no one has read that and they all ask me how to book :(. Which also makes me wonder, those who didn't ask, do they know what to do or are they waiting for the invitation? I'm planning on sending out the invitation with the RSVP date (the deadline for the deposit) a little bit sooner than I thought so that everything is clear, hopefully. Does anyone have tips on this?

@@TinkerSofi Uh its kind of annoying that no one reads any of the emails or invitation information.  I have all my booking info on my wedding website, save the date and my invitations and we still get texts or questions on how/where to book and when the deadline is.  Our deadline to book is a month from today and there are still a handful of people who said they were coming that haven't booked and I know its because they haven't looked at the deadline or our information and think that they have until right before the wedding to book. I don't want to confront them about booking but it would be nice if they looked at the information we gave them a year ago and then again a couple months ago so they know that they only have until July 10th,  I don't get it. lol I'm different I guess, I read everything and book and rsvp right away but that's just me.

@@NJBride2014 I'm the same way but I guess people just read the first few lines. I thought it would have been rude if my first line was the booking link but maybe I was wrong haha. I'm sending the invitations next month, even though it's 13 months away from the wedding but our deadline for the deposit is August 19. After that we have to give the unused rooms back to the hotel. They don't have to pay the full balance until next year but they really need to put down those $150! Anyway, I might have to send an e-mail out right before the deadline reminding people. I don't want to be pushy but I also don't want people coming back to me saying that now they can't afford to come because they lost out on the price we had when we booked everything. Ugh, so frustrating!

I don't think it would be too pushy to send out a reminder... I think people put booking on the long finger, if they think they've lots of time... its frustrating, but I know I've been guilty of it:-( ! Sending out a reminder would just spark people's memory, and put them into gear! :-)

EVERYTHING lol

I worry about everything in general day life, let alone a wedding in a foreign country I've never even been too and having to organise the whole thing by email with 2 wedding co-ordinators, 1 in Canada and 1 on resort in DR and we are in the UK.

So yeah, everything for me haha

I need to chill!

My wedding is not going to be until 2016 so I don't know how it's possible that I'm feeling this much stress about it. I have wanted to get married in the Dominican Republic for years (my fiancé and I have been together for 9 years and wanted a destination wedding for 8 lol engaged since December). Now I started doing some research a few months ago and picked out my DREAM resort. Royalton Punta Cana is the place I would like to say I do, or at least sleep when I go there to say I do. The price for people to fly out of Saskatoon, SK ( where 90% of my guests would go from) is about $2600.00 per person for 7 days with flights for the same time period I want my wedding but in 2015. This is almost a thousand dollars more than I want to ask people to spend. So then I think ok well I could compromise and change resorts, or even the month when we are going. Nope everywhere I have the slightest interest in is about the same +/- $200 and that is the same for within two months of the dates I'm looking at. Now the real kicker is people have been asking since we got engaged so not only have I been saying PC Feb 2016, I sent out save the dates to stop people from asking and give them a heads up so they could save. I just am at a loss and do not know what to do at this point.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
