Biggest Destination Wedding Stress factor - what's yours?

Recommended Posts

  • 2 months later...

So far, my biggest stress is worrying whether my family and friends can afford to attend our destination wedding. In the end, I know I need to focus on the people who do come to our wedding and not to worry about those who don't or can't attend.

Such a great thread! It helps to know we all feel the same way.

My stresses have been my FI not wanting to help plan anything, which doesn't bother me anymore.

Finding and finalizing with a TA. I just wanted to get it done & sign a contract!

Now I am stressing over who is really coming out of EVERYONE who said they were! I want to start buying things but have no idea of a head count...I also go dress shopping next week and am stressing that I won't find "the one".

I am trying to just relax and not care about anything!! I have plenty of time!

what a great thread

I think the biggest stressor for us was picking a resort, and still now we wonder "did we pick the right resort"

So far my biggest and current stressor is deciding on a resort. Taking into consideration the cost for the wedding package and guests travel expenses.  Everyone wants us to have a date and know what resort! I'm doing the best I can but know that cost is an important factor and if it wasn't we'd be booked already!

This site has been awesome for me. I come on here to get support, vent and get great ideas! Its the best!

My biggest stressor by far is getting certain members of the bridal party to actually book. We had to meet a minimum room block and people who were coming dropped out without telling me. I had to randomly ask and THEN they decide to tell me. Less than 2 months from the wedding, people haven't booked. That has been my biggest stress: People who aren't adult enough to handle business and tell you they're not coming. People who you thought were friends really aren't. That's been annoying.

AfricanVenus & Others...

i hope the fact that people haven't booked isn't your indication of their friendship...i'm learning throughout this DW process that some folks just can't 'afford' to travel, ie, they don't work (often or at all) or they have young kids without a babysitter or the means to travel with their children or they're afraid to travel or they're on a fixed income and too proud to beg or tell you the truth...it could be a number of factors and yes, it sucks..especially when most have had over a year to plan or 'layaway' their vacay BUT, its all good..my thought is..whoever is there was supposed to be there...so i've chalked that one up.

i'd have to say, my biggest stressor has been the dress...i bought one dress then decided it simply wasn't 'fabulous' enough for the Iberostar Rosehall Beach wedding i'd committed to, so i bought another..another stressor is the travel coordination for my kids..my fiance and i have four adult (i use that term loosely) kids...one is still in college, another is in law school and then our youngest two are high school seniors who all live with our ex-spouses...so trying to get them all there within the same timeframe has been difficult..but doable.

happy planning, all!!!  R~

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
