Biggest Destination Wedding Stress factor - what's yours?

Recommended Posts

i just got married a week ago and we didn't really have any stress beforehand or while away.

a few people complained here & there during the process and when we first got to the resort. i didn't let that bother me because i know it's their personality to focus on the negative instead of the positive.

i didn't over plan for the destination wedding and do too many extra things (no OOT bags, just favours). we didn't even see the area we were getting married until we walked down the aisle. i think not knowing what to expect was fun. it also helps that DH & i aren't they type of people to freak out if certain details didn't go as planned.

just enjoy the process and if something starts stressing you out too much...stop and think why you are doing it.

Thanks for the advice.. I think it can get really stressful if you let it..
But your idea to be as simple as possible helps to eliminate any stressors you may have. I'm an over organized and anal person so I'm doing my best not to get stressed, and I'm not going overly extravagent on favours/decorations etc.. to keep myself sane!

My only stressor now is just people booking!!!

Cheers,

reading thses threads has made me feel so much better.
When FI and I first announced we were doing DW everyone was so on board and couldn't wait etc etc.. now we're 2 weeks away from the cut off for the group rate and no one, not even family has booked!
I'm trying not to stress as I've heard most ppl like to wait and book later, but FI is actually making me stress as he bugs me every day to check with the TA to see if anyone has booked!
:) thanks for venting as well, it helps !!!

I started this thread because I was really stressed about who to pick as BM's, I was stressed about who was booking and wouldn't make it....but you know what? I just got married last week and NONE OF IT MATTERED!

At first I was stressing about asking Friend A to be my maid of honor because I thought it would hurt Friend B's feelings. I've known friend B longer and she was the one who actually introduced me to friend A. Well, friend B very nonchanlantly told me she was not going to the wedding. So all my stressing was for nothing. The friend who I originally wanted as my MOH has two small kids, a mortgage and her husband got laid off from work but she still made sacrifices and flew to MX to stand by my side.

I was stressed about choosing between two of my FI's sisters to be BM's and one of them also backed out at the last minute and didn't even go to the wedding.

I was stressed about choosing between two of my cousins to be a GM...I felt guilty because I'm closer to one than the other but the younger one feels like no one ever chooses him to be a GM. Guess what? All that stress I went through and only the one I really wanted to be a GM from the beginning showed up. Not only that, but he flew 26 hours from Kuwait to be at my wedding.

Things have a funny way of working themselves out. I invited 60 ppl and 50 made it. 90% of my guests waited until the cutoff date to book their trip. Before I left to MX all I could think and stress about was the 10 ppl who weren't going to make it. When I got to Cancun I was having SO MUCH FUN I forgot those 10 ppl even existed.

Don't sweat the small stuff and enjoy the process. Everything will work out, you'll have the time of your life and none of those trivial things will matter in the end!

I just wish I could turn back time and have that wedding week again because it was AWESOME. DW's are awesome and you should just enjoy the process.

My 2 cents:)

My biggest stress factor is inviting everyone to this event that may be very costly to them. I don't want people to attend if they cannot afford it but will say they are coming because they do not want to miss it. I don't want an unnecessary hardship on them. I also stress about the AHR and hope it does make me look gift needy but just as a way to celebrate with everyone who couldn't make it.

  • 3 weeks later...

I have a few stressors but I am only in the early stages of planning so I am sure it will ease once I am more into it.

First, travel/budget for guests (getting the best deal for them and making it an easy process)

Second, what will make my day perfect i.e. what extras do I really need. I am pretty laid back but then I see all these wonderful add ons that I through in the mix. I fight with myself on do I really want to do them or not.

Interestingly enough, my biggest stress factor is that I sometimes feel like I have TOO MUCH time still. Not getting married until next April. Trying to stick to my budget...but it seems like the more time I have, the more fabulous things I think to add to the mix. So maybe it's more of a $$ thing than anything...

lol this sort of thing started happening to me after we finally set a date, and i really started looking at the decorations....I've told the FI to keep me under control. That I've said I want it very basic b/c we don't want to be carting a lot of stuff down with us...and he's to make sure I keep it basic! It's very easy to run with the ideas that's for sure!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
