Biggest Destination Wedding Stress factor - what's yours?

Recommended Posts

My stress is that everyone was so excited at first, now I keep hearing about people talking behind my back about how selfish I am that I chose to do a destination wedding. This is the reason I chose to leave the country for my wedding in the first place...so that the people I was obligated to invite at home won't be able to make it and only my closest family and friends will be there to share my day!!

I love how honest you are! I completely agree though! Having a destination wedding means not having all those extra people there that you didn't really want in the first place!

Oh I'm so glad that I found this forum! When I feel like I must be crazy, I read here there are so many other brides feeling the same way. I have been so stressed that people are not booking and those who were "so on board" when we first started are now giving me the silent treatment rather than "fess up" they can't go. I don't even care that they can't go (I mean, yes I'm disappointed but I realize it's expensive so I'm not mad if they can't go) I'm just hurt & angry that they wouldn't talk to us! My budget has changed so many times because I have NO CLUE who is actually going and how many people to plan for!

After reading this, I'm so glad that I'm not the only one.

My biggest stress factor (anger?) is dealing w/ Mexico vendors who quote me OUTRAGEOUS prices and are clearly price gouging. Understanding what things cost in LA and NYC, it's ridiculous to receive prices that are 20%, 50% or even 100% more than what I would pay there. I dont know if they have gotten away w/ these prices w/ unsuspecting brides, but there's no way I'm falling for it.

Our DW is still a while away but a stressor of mine is actually my FI. lol :)

I keep trying to sit down with him and "include him in decisions" and such, and he keeps giving me the "WE HAVE A YEAR, THERE IS LOTS OF TIME"

Seriously I don't want to hear that anymore. I'm a fairly anal person and like to have things organized, so I don't think it's a big deal to start planning now.

Besides, I want to find deals on summer stuff so if I know what I want now, I can research and find stuff when it does go on sale and know it's a good sale! Is that asking too much?

Anyway, I guess it's not a stressor as other people have, but it's my urgggg moment right now!

Cheers,

What isnt stressful??...Im a year away and Im already stressed with all these decisions, not to mention my parents last minute decision of being unsupportive of our DW. I think the biggest challenge will be getting the final head count. How soon is everyone sending out their invites? I'm sending the STD out ASAP. I just dont know what time is good for actual invites, I want to know headcount ASAP also.

Cheers,
trust me babe, it doesnt get any better as your date gets closer...i've finally just let go of trying to get him involved, i make decisions and then show him whats happening or what ive chosen and (fingers crossed) he likes it. it's not that they don't care, they just think differently. all he cares about is that you are going to be his wife...not the flowers, cake, colors, etc. thats what you have us for wink.gif!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
