Can I give my DJ a full playlist of songs??

Recommended Posts

I really, really want to give my DJ a playlist of ALL the songs I want him to play at my reception. Music is THE most important part of the wedding reception for me because my FI & I are huge music lovers...we both work in the music industry and it is a top priority. Our guests are also huge dancers and love music so we want to choose the songs and give the DJ a list. I would play my IPod but I want an MC to run things and I also want them there to mix the songs and keep everything flowing.

Has anyone done this and did the DJ stick to your list? Do you think they would take offense to getting a playlist and having to stick to it? Would they even really play our songs or just play what they want anyway? I'm really nervous about this and would love to get opinions or hear any past experiences....

We gave our DJ a playlist on our ipod of all the songs we wanted. DH and I are very particular about the songs we wanted to hear and so he worked on our playlist, editting and splicing the songs so they flowed into each other nicely. He also put the songs in a certain order. We simply gave our DJ our ipod and told him that he could play the more traditional wedding music for the first couple of hours, but after that, we had our playlist that we wanted to hear in the exact order we had programmed. He was very accomodating and was perfectly understanding about it. Remember, this is your wedding and it should go exactly the way you want and planned it to go. We couldn't have asked for better music and it felt like we were in a club to hear our music on the loud speakers with all the cool lighting.

We just got back from our wedding and I wish I would've at least made a list of some popular songs to incorporate. My family and friends are dancers but the music the DJ played was kinda lame at times, I found myself thinking of songs on the fly and asking for them. I thought by having a DJ and asking to play popular dance songs that would be sufficient but it wasn't. At least give them a list of songs so they can use that as a guideline, that way there won't be any confusion.

Absolutely do it if it's important to you. I gave the DJ a list of song sto play during dinner and a list for dancing - he could play whatever order he wanted but had to stick to songlist. He made sure he had all the song on our list and did a fantastic job and was not offended. It's your wedding!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
