Ipod mobile PA system for reception

Ok I found a mobile PA system, Alesis Transactive with a buit in ipod dock. I have seen it as low as $199 on amazon. My resort charges $500 for their music setup or $300 an hour for the DJ. My question is for anyone who did the ipod reception or is considering it. What do you think about this system? It sounds like it would work perfect.

It looks pretty big to bring down to Jamica. I am planning on buying a Bose portable iPod dock. Its around $400 but figure i'll use it again at home once the wedding is done. Others have used it and said it was loud enough. I when to the store to listen and its very good quality plus its not to big to bring down with me.

I would definitely go in person to see how big it is and the quality before you buy it.

I am on the fence about size. It is setup like a rolling suitcase with handle, so mobility would be easy. It also comes with a wireless mic for speeches.

the wireless mic is a great feature. should have no problem but i would double check that the airline will let you check it in.

We bought a Bose portable dock. It came with a messenger bag for much easier carry on and can be used in our home. The mic is cool but is it needed. I think the Bose is better quality.

I think it looks perfect especially if you are having your reception outdoors - The mic would be great for speeches so everyone hears. Also then you would have a great sound system for parties at home too. I know Bose has good sound quality but for an outdoor reception I would be worried it wouldn't be loud enough, maybe if you have multiple smaller speakers. IMO this pa system looks like it would be a great deal and you would still save money even if you have to pay extra to check it on the plane.

Thank you for this post! We have a portable Bose dock that we are thinking of taking with us vs. renting equipment and wondered if it would be loud enough. I played it outside and it seemed loud enough but didnt know with other noises (sound of ocean, other people at resort etc..) but that is good to know!

We are trying to decide what to do, the place we are having the reception offers the sound system free and I believe the same goes for the ceremony, my worry is if it will be loud enough.  Hmm may have to talk to some of the past brides and find out.
