Save the date etiquette help!

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I have a bit of a conundrum regarding our save the date invites for our destination wedding. We will be getting married in Nov. 2010 in Mexico and had arranged our trip package so everything is booked and ready to go. Our immediate families know of our plans, including the information that a deposit is required by Dec. 13 2009 to guarantee a spot on the trip and to be a part of the early booking bonus.

On our save the date invites we are torn over whether to include the full price of the trip or to give our guests the contact info to find out the price themselves. I believe it is tacky and presumptuous to fully state the trip package price options (our save the date's clearly state we are getting married in Mexico and will be having a reception in our home city for all those who can't attend, so everyone knows we will be going away no matter what). My fiance wants to include as much info as possible because her reasoning is that she wants people to know up front what kind of price they can expect and they can decide from there, plus have the advantage of taking part in the early booking bonus.

We fully expect it won't be a large wedding party in Mexico, asides from a few of those on the fence. Some guest we know can't make it because of money or health or other issues, but we will be sending them a save the date regardless.

Is there a proper way of wording our invites so as not to insult anyone? I'm partial to including all the trip info, including prices, on our website which we'd include on the card. Or should we just throw it all on there and let the guest decide? We're sending an actual wedding invitation later on this summer for guests to RSVP to our reception at home. By the time our wedding invites hit mailboxes, the final payment for our trip package would have passed.

Can anyone help with their advice on what they did for their destination weddings? Is there an etiquette involved? Any suggestions would greatly help alleviate this already stressful process.

Personally, I would not put the pricing on the STD. I think you'll be able to provide more detailed information on a website, and it will still look elegant if you have the website on the STD. That way you can still provide your guests all the information they need, plus more since you'll have endless room on a website!!

I would only put pricing info on the website and add the address to the STDs. This is standard practice. Keep the STD simple and concise. Don't forget to include the information on the " at home reception" so those that can't make the wedding still can find useful information on the webpage and feel included.

i put the info on our wedding website. only problem is that no one booked the group rate quote before the expiry date (our travel agent only gave us 2 weeks tops for deposits to be in). we just sent our in STD less than a month ago and i have been hearing from people that they never even looked at the website. we are getting married in april 2010, that's 6 months away. since your wedding is over a year away, be prepared that most guests aren't going to book that far in advance. prices will most likely go down. i updated our website for guests with information for them to book their trips individually. we'll see how many people end up coming. either way...they were invited and in my opinion if they choose not to come that is their loss...haha.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
