Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

I will be sure to post pics. Hopefully they will reassure any doubts future brides have. I will probably end up writing a 5 page essay as my review!! Previous brides on here have helped me so much I like to think I can help the future brides to be :-)

We had our speeches at our dinner.  We didn't do anything formal and fancy, just informal little speeches.  There was honestly no one sitting even close to us during our dinner so we never felt like we weren't private.

I had my hair and makeup done by the spa at the resort and I was super happy with the job they did.  My hair normally doesn't hold curls well at all and they used this magic spray (they call cement spray) and it held my hair nicely all day long.

Resort charger $210 for hair and make-up, Rashel charges 250$ that includes travel but then you also have to pay for her day pass I believe? so I would be paying $115 more...I just don't know if I should or not, trying to keep things fairly cheap. Any suggesstions??

Because i'm getting 7 women's hair and make-up done Rashel actually is ending up being cheaper than the resort - even with the travel fee and the day pass

Just got back from my wedding there last week! Everything was perfect! Everyone there is amazing. Already planning on goin back for our one year! We had the ceremony at the gazebo then reception be rented out the snack bar area in the private deck it was decorated beautifully and right on the water and set off wish lanterns at the end and was a huge hit! We chose this area cause not only is it gorgeous but it's private so you're not having your wedding reception with other people in the same restaurant on the resort. It was 1700 extra but if you have a big group (we had 40) totally worth it! Felt more like a real wedding reception lol. And outside keeps with the tropical theme. The whole reason we wanted to have it there :) We took our own music for the ceremony and for our special dances then had the unforgettable package so had the DJ for the rest of the music for the dance/ reception. I must at had the steel drum band for the first part of dinner which was a great add. Used them there instead of at the gazebo since we wanted our own music for the ceremony. Also had sparklers for everyone for our first dance. The whole day was just magical. Highly recommend this resort for your special day. If anyone has questions feel free to ask! Also I recommend if you want photos that you'd love, since they last a lifetime...Don't use the one on the resort. We still got 15 free one with our package and they look just like the one from my mothers cellphone. We used dean Clark and he was AMAZING!!! Had an assistant too so captured everything!!! For the full day!! Every shot I had in mind from Pinterest etc he was already on it! And they look amazing!!!!

Just wondering if you brought your own decorations down to decorate the Pisces or if it was decorated for you? It's difficult to get an idea of the type of decorations (if any) it will need. Do you have any pictures of your reception you can share?

Well... the private dinner and reception of at the Pisces costs if definitely extra! And we're planning on getting the steel drum band for the ceremony. Other than that, i dont think we're going to get additional decorations or anything. My FI really wants to canape service but i'm dont really think it's worth the money so it's on our "maybe list". Anyone else get the canape service at your ceremony??

They were already precut to the proper length.  It was worth it for us to save some money as the resort charges $2.50 per each and I beleive we paid around $0.60 per each one.

JayKay- you said you brought your own chair ties -. How long should they be and how much did you spend? We have about 40 people coming so not sure if there will be a cost savings to bring my own.

What were the duty fees like shipping to Canada?

Hi all!

Congratulations to all the brides here!  I have read quite a few threads on this site, but have just now became a member! All the advice is awesome, and I'm so happy this site exists! I am getting married January 9, 2014, at GBP in Runaway Bay....any other brides getting married here at that time?  My fiance and I had the opportunity to do a site visit in December, and absolutely fell in love! The resort is so big with so much to do....that you and your guests will never be bored! While there we met with the assistant wedding planner, Stephany, who went through some of the details.  We emailed her on 1-2-13 to reserve our wedding date of 1-9-14, and it only took a couple of days to hear back from her.  One thing I have found that helps is emailing both the WP and the AWP....that way at least one person gets back to you promptly.  Any questions I have emailed have been answered within a couple of days.  It is true that they are definitely on island time there....but they are also super busy!  We were only there for 4days in December, and we saw at least two weddings every day! I look forward to hearing about others' big day....and am more than happy to share any information I have as well!

Only 255 days until my wedding!!! Lol....

Since I started my new job... I haven't had all that much time for my wedding planning...

Thankfully I plan things way ahead of time, so I have no stress right now, even though it feels like I still have a million things to do.

I wish there were better timelines for destination brides. I need something to tell me when to get my butt in gear.

Still need to write the ceremony script, and vows... and ask a family friend to be our unofficial officiant. Haha!

Centerpieces, flower girl dress decision (might have it made. My little cousin is so cute!), OOT bags, welcome brochure... Groom/smen outfits. Groom's RING!! (Haven't even looked yet... AHH!)

Oh, etc etc.... With 8 1/2 months to go... when would you say I should have some of these things completed?!

OMG one week from now i am will be getting married, so excited. Anyone else getting married next week at the resort? I'm just getting nervous because of the small things, like should i take decorations or a just go with what they have and see how they decorate it? Any brides that got married at the resort already and used the Dolce Vita did they make it look nice for the supper? Also if couples who brought their own music  for the ceremony roughly how many songs did you use? All this little stuff is getting me so nervous but i am so so excited.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
