Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

Yah I figured it out that's my dress and i have a pic of me in it too but I am making a really really weird face as I am trying to decide what dress to get and not at all paying attention to the camera. My mother balled her eyes out as soon as we got to the store and then almost every dress after that LOL.

I'm so happy it ended up working out for you and it is definitely for the best. Even if it is just you and your future husband, it is going to be beautiful and romantic and perfect! Sometimes I think it may just be easier if that's what I did. Looking forward to pictures!

we are being married at home here on Oct 15th. we finalized it yesterday. after many tears and arguments that I thought would split us up, we've managed a compromise and will have a very small wedding with about 20 people. we can't afford any more than that. but it's ok - we have our best friends and some family that will be with us.

we lost everyone to go Jamaica so we are now 2, once they all found out what the others did, everyone just assumed that it was done and decided not to go.  but the good news is we are still travelling on our date of Nov 12th and will still have our "ceremony" at GBPJ on November 17th only we'll just have a blessing instead. I didn't want to lose our photographer money that was alread paid so we're taking everything they will give us for the "free" wedding and will have pics done just the 2 of us. on the beach like I wanted to have.  it isn't what I hoped for or wanted but it's what I have to take and be satisfied with it and enjoy it. I'm still going to have a dress - not sure which one yet. don't know if I want to take my dress all the way there now for a blessing so I might try and find something a little simpler and lighter and a whole lot cheaper!!  lol

so if anyone is going to be at GBPJ during the week of Nov 12th to Nov 19th, please come and see us at 2:30 pm on Thursday, November 17th. we'll be the only ones at the gazebo so you won't be able to miss us. but it sure would be nice to have somebody else there even if you just say hi and leave. but if you want to join us for a drink you're welcome to do that too.

That's so funny, I am considering parasols as well! I really want the bridesmaids to hold something other than flowers. I've never been a huge flower person (I hate how expensive they are and then they just die and get thrown away. Very depressing to me!) and I would love to cut off a big chunk of money if I could think of an alternative for them to use other than flowers. I love the parasol idea and have been toying with it :)

When should I lock down a time for the reception after the ceremony? Do they have a time frame they usually suggest to secure the time of your reception dinner. Also, when do you let them know you are interested in renting out the gazebo as well?

Yes, that is normal. My wedding is 60 days away and I haven't locked in a restaurant either for the reception. The reason is because not all restaurants are open all the time. So closer to your wedding day (usually 2 weeks out) you can lock down a certain restaurant. From what I've been told the Grill and Italian Restaurant are both great so you will have nothing to worry about.

You should have locked down a time though..

Hey ladies! Sorry to butt in.

I am currently trying to find a venue for our DW in Jamaica and another bride on BDW told me about the Grand Bahia. We won't be having any guests but still want to have a cake and obviously photography. Does the resort offer that?

Also, I told FI that we MUST go swimming with dolphins, I have an obsession and ever have since I was a little girl. So I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about doing that down in Jamaica as well? Thanks in advance girls! :)

I'm so happy it finally worked out for you!! Donnalee is the assistant wedding planner and Chandlyn is the wedding planner and I am guessing that she is trying to give Donnalee more to do or more responsibility because they seem to have split up the work but it doesn't make it get done any quicker or more efficiently, that's for sure! I'm happy it all worked out for you! woot.gif

The resort offeres different wedding packages and they all include a cake and a photographer.  However, they usually only include 5-10 pictures from the photographer.  We chose to hire our own from the island of Jamaica as we werent really fond of the resort photographer.

Im sure there are places to go swimming with the dolphins near by!

Good luck with choosing a venue for your DW in Jamaica!

Hey There- Congrats! The GBP has lots of options including a free ceremony if you are staying at least 7 nights and it's for up tp 16 people. So that would be the best package for you. You might also talk to the planners there to maybe see about just a small setup for you two with cake, photo's etc. My only excursion is to Dolphin Cove. It is like a big park with shark shows, dolphin encounters or swims, paddle boats, access tp privat beach, fishing etc. Everyone is going to the park but only a handful of us are actually swimming with dolphins. So you pay to get into the park which is about $75 and you get to do everything but feed the sharks and swim with dolphins. If you want to do either of those you pay for those ($120-$200) and your entrance fee is free. So basically my mom isn't swimming with dolphins so she is going to go lay out at the private beach, my FI's parents are going fishing and we are swimming with dolphins with our 6 year old son. Then we are just meeting up for lunch at the restaurant in the park with the rest of our guests. I chose this place because it had something for everyone but our group was still all together :) Ok so www.dolphincovejamaica.com is the site to read up on the actual park, however to book go through www.islandroutes.com they have a better rate and their rates include transportation to and from the resort. The Ochos Rios location is closest to the GBP, about 20 minutes.. Did I just talk you to death? Lol, sorry...

Hey Doll, As soon as you book your ceremony time they should tell you what times are available for dinner. They open the restaurants for receptions at 6pm, so I suggest doing it as soon as you book your ceremony time. Something happened to my ceremony time of 430 when Bev left and Chandlyn took over so insrptead of ceremony at 4 and dinner at 6 I now have ceremony at 1230 and dinner at 6 which sucks ass but oh well. Just more time to take pics and just relax...oh and change into my 2nd dress :) I would also let them know asap about renting the gazebo since those can book up and you may have to pay a deposit, rent a band/dj/bartender etc..

When should I lock down a time for the reception after the ceremony? Do they have a time frame they usually suggest to secure the time of your reception dinner. Also, when do you let them know you are interested in renting out the gazebo as well?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
