Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

wow. I'm blown away at the number that are booked for 2012 already!!!  we just finally booked a couple of weeks ago for november and I thought that was way ahead!!  we didn't get the day and date we wanted because GBPJ is booked up but I'm ok with it.

JayKay - you got your dress already? talk about organized!!  we're doing them tomorrow but everyone is on a diet so I'm not ordering until probably may.

unfortunately booking so far in advance yes you run the risk of the company changing their departure date. there is a formula too it that involves gate time at the airports when they leave and return, generally first come first served. so if another airline beats you out, you have to pick other times and days. we may be in the same boat. we plan (at the moment) to leave on sunday, but it's very possible we will get a saturday departure. our wedding is on thursday. could mean we do our wedding thursday, get one day to recover then have to turn around and fly home on the saturday, which would totally suck. compensation is we'll probably go away again a month later for a week at Xmas. somewhere there is always a bright side girls. take that from an old lady that is doing this for the second time and loving every minute of it.  I know it's your wedding but try to just roll with it. we always want everything perfect but sometimes the best moments in life are the ones not planned.

now I received a quote from Transat out of Toronto that is terrible - over $1500 so we'll definitely be waiting a while to book. it's really tough to realize they are charging these amounts now but it you go online by July to book it yourself, you would probably get it for no more than $1,000.  we actually saw GBPJ in January of this year for $700 taxes all in. that's less than half of what they are askng for now. I know everyone is getting upset about the resort prices, but doesn't it make you wonder where the airlines get off charging someone $1800 for a vacation that 6 to 8 months later someone else will pay half that amount for???  maybe that's where there should be a protest??

Yes I did buy my dress already!  I found one I loved so I bought it!

We knew there was a chance that the departure dates would change, and they did.  So hopefully they won't change again or ill be angry haha.  We received our group quotes not to long ago and I think they are pretty decent.  Our TA who is a close family friend, said she wouldn't be surprised if the prices go up quite a bit in the next few months.  She has heard that mostly all companies and airlines are going to be adding additional taxes and environment taxes.  She also said that the fuel taxes will be substantially increased with all that has gone on in the middle east and now Japan.  We decided we would book now and use the group prices she gave us just incase they start adding additonal taxes.  And she also said that the GBPJ is becoming a super hot resort, she said probably the most popular in the caribbean right now, and because of that the prices could go up.  I guess its what ever you feel comfortable with!

Hi everyone!  I am hoping to get married at GPBJ early 2012.  I found this forum (which will be so helpful) and saw the new 2012 prices.  I got really excited about the cheaper packages and then today I got the email from the assistant planner at the resort with all the info.  It looks like she sent me the 2010 prices.  I specified I was interested in the new pricing for 2012.  Should I just respond asking her again?

Thanks!

Welcome to this thread!  Have you confirmed a date with them yet? Cause I imagine once you confirm a date of 2012 they may send you the new packages.  Or else just ask for the new 2012 ones.

Hi, no we haven't confirmed a date yet.  I will start with that and then see if the prices change.  I hope they do!  I can't wait to get started with everything.

Hello ladies,

Well it's been a month since we returned from our wedding at the Gran Bahia Jamaica. I have wanted to update you ladies for so long but have had to deal with some personal stuff first. I will be writing a review of the wedding (but just to let you all know it was wonderful, the resort is amazing and Beverly is great!), but for now I need some help from you lovely ladies one more time. There was a lot of drama going on between my family and my husband's family (at the wedding) and as a result we have decided to cancel our AHR that was planned for May. I had already included information (date, time, location) in the original invitation and now I need to find a way to cancel. I'm thinking of sending out the cancellation notification along with our wedding announcement. Do you ladies know the proper way to say we have cancelled? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to start reading through this thread and getting caught up. In the meantime if any of you have specific questions about the resort, or wedding details just let me know.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
