Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

Hi Girls,

I haven't been on this in a really long time, although I have been reading it to stay updated.

I just thought I would let you guys know that a guest who is going to be attending our wedding (July 11th) sent my fiance and I a message over the weekend that he heard the workers at the Gran Bahia in Runaway Bay have gone on strike. I contacted my travel agent to see what is going on. She did not know about it but said she would look into it, although it appears it has been going on for a couple of weeks? I am guessing Beverly's mysterious disappearance may have something to do with this.

Has anyone heard about this?

I wasn't able to get the fax to go through either!  I was trying yesterday...and wondering what gives!  I finally just faxed them to our travel agent thinking that maybe I couldn't fax internationally from work...

How did you end up sending them?

I ended up scanning and emailing them as attachments. I am not a last minute person but my fi could not find his long form birt cert, I only found out afterward that you could use a short form birth cert.

We don't have to deal with the long for birth certificate stuff in the US...but in order to be at the 2 month prior deadline, I wanted to get them out before the end of this week.  I ended up faxing them to our TA who then faxed them to GBP.  She then called down there and spoke with Rosie in sales as well as Chandlyn to verify that the documents were received and that it was everything that they needed. Our TA said that she got the impression that things are transitioning smoothly and verified that everything that had been discussed with Bev had been relayed to Chandlyn...so I am breathing a little easier now.  smile41.gif

Omgosh, i've been sitting on the edge of my seat reading the last couple pages of this thread. I haven't been on for a few days and this is the first i've heard of Beverly leaving and the strike. Hopefully the strike really IS over and wont affect us at all. Also Tris, Chandlyn was always the one who replied to my emails from Beverly, so after i while i just started sending them straight to her. I've been emailing the resort since September and i don't think i've actually heard from Beverly herself at all. I'm a little bummed that i won't get a chance to meet her, from the sounds of it she did a wonderful job ( except for keeping up with her emails obviously). But, Chandlyn seems very competent and i don't think any of us have anything to worry about.

On another note- I would also REALLY like to know if the resort has a steamer. I assumed they did, but now i'm concerned. I really really don't want to have to buy one and pack it with me. They aren't cheap. And the small ones don't necessarily work all that well.

I wonder what the deal is about the long form birth certificates. I asked Chandlyn and she said we don't need them. So, why do the forms say we do? Who exactly does need them? Is it a matter of where you're from maybe? I've always thought this was weird and its not explained very well at all.

Lastly, I went for my final dress fitting today!!!!!!! I am SO EXCITED!!  56 days to go!!!

A friend of mine is staying at the resort right now. If she has anything noteworthy to say about it i'll be sure to post it when she gets back :)

I have always dealt with Bev, since September, but from reading everybodys posts, I'm sure everything will be fine with Chandlyn. It seems that she replies to emails faster than Bev does. I havent heard from Bev in months now anyway. So I guess I will just send an email to Chandlyn, and see how that goes.  I'm not worried at all. I'm sure all of our weddings will turn out fabulous with Chandyn working on them!

I used the long form birth certificates, it was those that were required to get a passport, because it started the names of your parents, so they were the ones we had copies of anyway. They were only $20 here in NL. But I have read that the hotel does not need them, that the short form is ok.

I think the hotel has a steamer, but you pay a small amount to use it. Can anyone else clarify that?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
