Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Quick question for past 2013 brides...has anyone used the "free" package?  What did you pay for minister fees?  The package I was sent by Stephany earlier in the year states that the minister fees are $200.  However, I got a phone call a few weekends ago from a Kalfani - I guess he is in the wedding department - and he said that it has always been $250.  Apparently the price for 2014 brides is $250, but I was told I am not eligible for any of the 2014 packages since I am getting married in 2013.

Oh the confusion ensues...

I am getting married Dec 2013 and just checked my documents.  It says $250 for the minister fees and I would have received this information in Mar 2013.

I was told on Friday that if I have over 40 people then I have to pay to have the Dolce Vita as a private venue.  Has anyone encountered this?  So far I have 37 people coming and I may have another 5 more but they haven't RSVP'ed.  Seems crazy that I would have to inconvenience so many guests to shut down the Dolce Vita when I am only 2 people over the limit.  Not to mention there aren't any limits written on any of the documents sent to me.

Hi everyone,

I am currently planning my wedding at the Grand Bahia Principe in Runaway Bay. I've been in contact with a wedding planner there who verbally booked my wedding date in July 2014, but said he does not require a deposit from me right now, and instead two months prior to the wedding date. Did this happen to you as well? I want to make sure my date and time is not double booked because I am not putting down a deposit...especially since my family and friends have all booked their flights!

Please let me know what your experience was and if it was the same.

Thanks,

Kathleen

I hate to say it...but I really think that they are trying to gouge us for more money. In the same phone conversation with Kalfani, he told me that to rent out the Piscis, it was now $2500.  I told him that I was always told $1700.  And after I said that, he was like, okay $1700 then.  I think they are looking for anyway possible to make more money off their weddings.  I think I continue to grow more and more disillusioned by them and this whole process...

I was told if I had over 50 I would have to rent out the entire restaurant for $2500 OR rent out the Piscis for $1700. It kind of makes sense since with that many people you'll pretty much have the entire place to yourself anyway.

I'm not a fan of all these different quotes for prices either! I'm renting out the Piscis for $1700 in January. I was tempted to call when I saw all these posts about it being $2500 but I'm not going to. I'm printing out all my emails with the original prices I was quoted and bringing that down. There's no way they're going to get another $800 from me when I get there.

I miss Chandlyn :(

Funny how they tell me 40 people and you were told 50 people... they really aren't consistent.  I wanted to rent out the Piscis originally and they told me I didn't have enough people, and now the Piscis is rented out by another bride.

Is Chandlyn not there anymore?  Is Donna Lee still there?

Chandlyn left a few months ago to start her own wedding planning business. I get emails from her every now and then advertising her services. I'm not sure about Donna Lee.

Hi girls ! I'm preparing to send my documents to the resort and I'm wondering for the credit card payment form what needs to be included on there exactly. Just our wedding package and wedding fees or photography and video aswell? Thanks :). Also for those asking about Donnalee she was due to have her baby around this time so she's probably gone but she said her mat leave was only a few months.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
