Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

Hey Ladies,

Should've been on here sooner, so much to catch up on.  I got married at the Gran Bahia Principe, Runaway Bay on 8th May 2012.  It was amazing.  Couldn't have wished for it to go any better.

We got married at 11am, I was worried that it was so early but sooooo glad we did, it was around 34 degrees celcius and hardly a cloud in the sky.  We did get a few showers that afternoon but luckily our Wedding was already done, shame for the Bride that was getting married while it was raining but on the plus side it was still really warm.

We had chicken ceaser salad, beef vegetable soup, mix grill, and cheesecake for our meal.  I would definitely recommend any of those items, they were all delicious.  I have to say though the soup was the best soup I have ever eaten.  We even went back the next day just because of the soup!

What did you pick for you starter, second dish, main dish, and dessert for that menu?  Would you recommend those items or something else?

The gazebo is big enough for 30 people I would think.  And there is also a large area just to the right of it thats pretty big.

Another question I have for you, I think I read somewhere in this forum that you said you didn't rent out the Gazebo afterwards and instead went to the poolside bar where they have a band... is that correct? Do they have a band there every night?

Another question, SORRY! So I was thinking that I would want petals/flowers covering the walkway up to the gazebo, however, I have heard that it is VERY windy at the gazebo.  Is this true? If so, then the flowers on the walkway might be pointless because they would blow away before I got there lol :(  LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK! cheesy.gif

Yes, we didn't rent the Gazebo but went to the poolside bar.  There was no band but they had music playing and we were the only people there so we had our own little dance party complete with drinks and shots at our fingertips!

It is SUPER windy at the gazebo.  I wouldn't recommend petals as they probably would blow away pretty quickly.

Hey ladies, I was just wondering you input on something.  I am hiring Rashel Edwards, the freelance makeup artist, and her hairdresser.  And I was wondering how much I should tip her. They are doing hair and makeup for six of us.  I spoke with my friend who is a hairdresser, and she said because it is her own business and not out of a spa, that I shouldnt be tipping her. But I think that the hairdresser is working under Rashel, so I dont know how I would go about tipping them. The bill is just over $1000.

Thanks ladies for your input

I canâ€t believe itâ€s 2013 already! Happy New Year and happy planning! My Wedding is booked for

July 1, 2013.

Here is some advise that I have for everyone. Going back and fourth via email can be really crazy and confusing. I was having trouble trying to understand the packages and deposit and extras and everything.

What I did was found out when was a good time to schedule a call to Chandlyn or Donna Lee.  I prepared a list of questions and although it took me a few tries to get them on the phone, I called in the morning as scheduled and they were busy with a wedding .So I called again in the afternoon…  Chandlyn took her time speaking to me and we sorted out a bunch of details.

I have 70 people coming to the wedding! ( OMG!!!... I was expecting a lot less but I am so happy so many of my friends and family are making the trip! )  Because we are 70- I am doing the private reception at Dolce Vita.  Despite the big numbers I wanted to keep it intimate and felt this was the only way.  It is 2500$ and it includes a set dinner, wine, beer, soft drinks … We are arranging to bring our own hard liquor and will pay a small uncorking fee per bottle.

What I would do is try to negotiate as much as you… if you take a more expensive package and you are bringing business to the hotel  more than likely they will be flexible flexible.

I would say to you – having all the extraâ€s does add up , so look at your budget and pick something that works for you.

It is important to iron out the details and then to do it in writing- I sent an email rehashing what we discussed and Chandlyn confirmed everything in writing.

Hopefully that helps… I would call closer to the wedding date because things change all the time and you have to be prepared.

Thanks

Dana

Thanks for the advise, i think i will give a call too. My wedding date is 26th June 2013.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
