Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

Agreed, the reviews are scary but they complain about the most ridiculous things. And if they have a vacation in Jamaica and the only thing they can write about are negative nit-picking things, then they aren't going to be happy anywhere! It's Jamaica Mon...Relax!!! :)

Besides, it's our wedding and we'll all be surrounded by friends and family. When we're not in Jamaica, we keep each other happy and entertained- so I can't imagine that anyone can have a bad time when we're surrounded by friends, fam, beaches and booze!!

I was feeling the same way when we met with our travel agent who is also our wedding planner and a destination wedding specialist. She actually went down there in April for her nieces wedding...I think that really speaks volumes. And like a lot of you said - take things with a grain of salt, some people complain at the stupidest things...I am going on vacation so I am not worrying about stupid little things!

Thanks ladies and you are absolutely right! A trip is what you make it and i guess if u want to run around taking pics of dirty carpet on the resort thats your call lol. My very discerning Aunt has stayed at the GBPJ and loved it and I've stayed at a Bahia in Punta Cana and had a fab time.

It must be bc most of our weddings are still a few months off (for me its still a year!) so we haven't turned into crazy, frantic bridezillas yet hehe cheesy.gif

or wait, isn't that why we're doing DWs anyway? We get to avoid all of that stress and RELAX!! I'll take bad reviews over having to do an at home wedding any day. Ahhh I can't wait, we are def the smartest brides! lol

Anywho- Is anyone doing anything really unique for your reception, ceremony, OT bags, anything like that? I love little details that make a wedding really standout (not that a DW isn't memorable as it is...but ya know what I mean).

The only thing I have planned so far is that we're going to take all of our guests on a catamaran trip, either a sunset cruise or a snorkeling trip as kind of a welcome get together & thank you for everyone that traveled so far. Also, this isn't that super original but I love the idea of it- We're going to put self addressed, stamped post cards in all of the OT bags and ask ppl to please write their favorite memory on the card and send it to us, that way we'll have mail when we get back from our honeymoon and we can put them all in our wedding album. :)

That's so cute! I love it!

I'm still trying to think of unique and fun ideas to make things a little more special, and I'm sure they'll come as I get more into planning.

I love the idea of doing a group activity beforehand as well. I'm trying to think of some ideas that are a little cheaper... we're already paying extra to rent a restaurant for the night. We want to have a real reception and this was just the easiest way to do it without moving around so much.

Anyone have any great "couples kiss" games? One of my favorites I've seen on the board is a martini shaker in the middle of the table and the guest takes a shot and the bride & groom kiss. I was thinking of doing something similar up at the mic having shooters ready to go, and they have to come up and tell a funny story about us and do the shot. We've been together for over 8 years now so there are SOOO many hilarious stories. Is that too complicated? Just an idea now.

I totally think we're not bridezillas cuz DW's are pretty much stress free, as long as you're easy-going yourself, and I am. The only thing that matters is me and my FI are getting married, nothign else matters. I don't even care if it rains.

The shot one is super cute! Love it

And I am totally going to steal Mekanbar about the postcards, that is so cute! And it would be nice coming home to have them waiting in your mailbox. Great idea!

I haven't thought of anythign too unique, I'm hoping that something will hit me!

For the reception back home I was thinking of a jerk chicken spice rub and Bob Marley CD as favors. Also we are having the guests fill out postcards from Jamaica instead of a traditional guest book. I'll put them in an album afterward.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
