Yep! That sounds about right.  I am going to be renting the Piscis for a private reception. The dinner is roughly two hours, where apparently they only serve beer and wine...and it comes with 2 hours of the DJ afterwards for dancing, etc.  If one wants an open bar for the two hours after dinner, I believe they quoted me something like $23 per person for the 2 hours.  I kinda think charging on a per person basis is ridiculous, if all we are paying for is the bartender's time.  It should just be a straight rate.  That's just my rant and opinion though!

I just want to add that if you get the Romance Extravaganza package it includes 2 hours of open bar after the dinner.  Not sure if that helps.

Hey mallenbride,

If you are talking about the 2014 packages - unfortunately, they don't apply to me as I am getting married in 2013.  Although, I heard that was something that they started to add into the upcoming packages!

Oh I'm sorry, I was talking about the 2014 packages.  That is crazy that they will make you pay because your wedding is in 2013!  I feel like as soon as they come out with the new packages they should be available to everyone.

I had asked about that, because the assistant WC even sent my TA the 2014 rates.  And they were firm that since I am getting married in 2013 (even at the end of 2013), that the rates for 2014 do not apply to me at all.  Oh, well.  I went with the free package anyways, and I think I am just going to do what other brides have done in the past and ask that they keep serving beer and wine, juice and soda (especially since I read that the bar for hire doesn't really have beer, just liquors, and my FI is a beer man) and see if I can get some rum punch as well.  I don't think most of our guests are big drinkers, so I think we are okay. :-)

Hi Everyone,

I have a question i'm hoping people who have already been at the resort can answer.

I have a couple of gay friends that would like to come to our wedding but our weary about travelling to Jamaica.

Apparently homosexuality (sexual acts between men) is actually illegal in Jamaica and it's considered one of the most homophobic places on the planet!

Has anyone had gay men as guests to their wedding and/or have any idea if my friends should feel safe to come?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Also....does anyone else think it's highway robbery that they charge you a supplemental fee as part of the package if you have more than 30 ppl, AND THEN want to charge $1700 or $2500 to close out a private venue?  Isn't that double-charging?  What is the point of paying a supplemental fee if we're paying for a private venue?  Don't both supplemental and private venue cost cover the same thing??  It's also crap that if you have more than 30-40 ppl then they basically force you to have a private venue...which means they're basically forcing you to pay $1700 or $2500.  How does that make sense too?  Getting super frustrated with this place.  Not sure if anyone else is having the same headaches?

I agree, it's double charging.  What I can't believe is the Dolce Vita holds 180 people and they want me to shut down the restaurant for my 41 guests??  That's ridiculous.  Set me and my guests up at the buffet then!

CdnBrideJoanne - I don't think that you have to pay to close out a restaurant until you reach over 50 guests.  I think that's the lowest figure I've seen!  And, it seems that even at that, to close out some venues, they want you to have at least 45 guests.  At 4 guests, you're still under that!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
