Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

I am considering getting married at the GBP in Jan 2014 (Jan 10th) as well ! May I ask, what made you ultimately decided on that resort ? I have read what seems to be hundreds of reviews on the resort and as of now, I'm about 95% positive I will be choosing this resort. Any information you can give me will be greatly appreciated !

I'm looking at the Unforgettable Package but I do not have any pricing/information for renting out restaurants or the snack bar.

Thanks so much ! cheesy.gif

Hey everyone....thanks for all the helpful advice! I joined this site two weeks ago and have been reading non stop! I'm getting married at Grand Bahia Principe January 2014 and I am super excited...even if its a year away! The only thing I have been struggling with is the ridiculous venders fee for outside photographers. I have read many replies that indicate that if a photographer is a paying guest at the resort, you do not need to pay the fee. Can anyone confirm this for me? My phtographer is a friend who lives in St. Marteen during Ontario's winter months. We will be paying to fly her to Jamaica and stay at the resort for two nights. She is technically a friend with a big camera, lol! Would the resort still make me pay the $800 vendors fee?

Hello ! I am considering getting married at GBP on Jan 10th 2014. I have read what seems to be hundreds of reviews and so far I'm about 95% sure that this is the resort I want to have my wedding at. Mind if I ask, what made you ultimately decide on this resort ? Any information or tips you have would be appreciated !

ps - I read about the vendor fee but I do not know if you'd still need to pay the fee if they are a paying guest.

Seriously, I was one of those brides that had planned every last detial beofre hand, and once we got there, it all just falls into place stress free, even if it isnt exactly the way you pictured it. My husband( lol crazy!) has the day off today so we are spening the day at home in our pjs since its so cole(How I miss the beach and plus 30), So I will post pics and reviews later. All I would like to say is No worries! everything works our great and Chandlyn is fantastic, and accomodated everything we asked. And for anyone wondering about the picses, it was stunning! I coiuldnt see us doing our reception any other way.  Also, We are both very into high quality photography and had amazing photographer Genevieve Albert from Montreal, we did not want to use the resort after hearing they were not very good quality, HOWEVER, they cam and took the free pics anyways and I was extremely impressed by the quality of them, we got 5 free ones and paid for a couple more. Below are a few of the pics we have gotten back from Geneieve. And for hair and makeup, it was more expensive to get it done at the resort than to hire off of the resort, we went with Rashel Edwards and her stylist Sophia who were both phenomenal.

Well, gonna go relax with my husband!!! And I will put up a review sometime in the next week, gonna unwind and unpack! Nothing to worry about ladies!!!! Oh, and I have tons of advice on some amazing local excursions and a great company with great prices!

Hi there! My fiance and I ultimately decided on GBP because we liked the packages they offered (we are going with the Unforgettable Package), the wedding location (Gazebo) appears to be private, and the price of the resort for a week was within our budget.

More about the wedding location... originally my fiance and I were determined to get married in Negril because that is where the best beaches are and we wanted the best beach possible.  The main resort we were considering was RIU Tropical Palace.  We ended up deciding against this because of the fact that the beach is public.  We watched a video on YouTube of a wedding at the RIU Tropical Palace and it was AWEFUL; no privacy at all! There were people walking in the background, people stopping in the background to watch, people lounging in their swimsuits 10 feet away, etc.  If we are going all the way to Jamaica to get married then we expect a beautiful back drop and nothing else.  And then we debated between RIU Ocho Rios, Grand Palladium, and Gran Bahia.  RIU Ocho Rios has the gazebo on the beach, which could hide some of the foot traffic and it appeared as they blocked off the area a little bit in photos and videos we watched, but still not as much privacy as we was hoping.  Plus, RIU's wedding packages were just lame to us. HAHA! Lastly, we chose Gran Bahia over Grand Palladium because it had better reviews, it was closer to some of the excursions we want to do (such as Dunns River Falls), the beach looks better in pictures and reviews have said it is nicer, and the wedding packages were more what we were looking for.

SOOOO prices I received for renting out the venues for the private reception are as follows:

Indoor reception (Garden Grill or Dolce Vita): $2500 and includes DJ for 4 hours

Outdoor reception (Pisces aka Snack Bar or Beach): $1700 and includes DJ for 4 hours

Gazebo (for dancing): $500 and includes DJ for two hours

Hope some of this helps!

I have finically decided to book Rashel Edwards for makeup and hair. I am also booking Merrick Cousley for our photos. Anyone with any suggestions or additional info on both would be greatly appreciated. Honestly....I am just going to try and get the 800 fee down when I get to the hotel. Has anyone brought paper lanterns with them? If so, what size and how many? We have the Piscus for the evening so just wondering how many I should order.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
