Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

I heard there is, but they are really crappy.  I think I'm just going to bring my own to be safe.

busy bee is absolutely right!!  I know everyone is excited about planning your wedding and you want people to book, etc. but definitely shop around. AND WAIT!!!!  we got married in October, which is low season and we were originally quoted $1600 in January.  by the time we actually got a firm booking rate which was closer to April, it was down to $1250 all inclusive (taxes, fuel surcharge, royal upgrade).  tour companies want to know well in advance how many of their rooms they are going to have booked so they'll put out prices knowing it's somebody's wedding and if they want a group badly enough, they'll pay the rate. but hang tough. rates for 2013 will not be available until this summer, and even then there's a good chance they'll change. give your guests a ballpark and ask them to start saving ahead of time. we had great success with Marlin Travel. Plus - Jamaica is a lot more expensive than Mexico, and January through to April is high season. you won't get the "deals" at that time of the year unless you're going last minute. as well, GBP has a Royal upgrade. some tour companies give it to you at a better rate than others. we went with Transat which turned out to be a better rate than Sunquest, but Transat only gave you a free person for every 15 booked, but their rates were a lot better!  and lastly, rates from the US are always cheaper than Canada, so yes - going from Detroit will be less than Toronto or any other major Canadian city.  work with a travel agent.  the more in advance you try to push for rates, the higher the rate will be.  hold off as long as possible and get an agent that appreciates that it's your wedding and you're trying to get the best possible deal for yourself and your guests!!

We're travelling in January which is high season and have guests going from Ottawa and Toronto.  When we initially were shopping around about 10months ago, we were quotes rates from 1750-2100 for the one week all inclusive.  We shopped around and were able to get it for $1300 out of Toronto and $1400 out of Ottawa.  Also with certain group bookings you're also able to get a few guests free.  With Sunquest, you get one person free for every 11 you book!  Not a bad deal at all!  I would highly suggest shopping around...its definitely worth it!

So....only 3 more sleeps before we leave! I cannot believe it!  Feels like I've been on the forum and planning forever and a day!  I guess the time has finally come! Have a full 8hr day booked at the spa tomorrow, one last day for last minute packing, and then we're off!  Thanks so much to everyone on here for all of their advice, encouragement and tips along the way!  I couldn't have done it without you!  Will definitely be back with a review and pics if not before!  Happy planning for now! :)

Hey Ladies,

We are putting together our webinar schedule for BDW.  These webinars are great because not only can you get YOUR questions answered but also hear answers to questions from other brides that you may not have even though of :)

Webinars are a great way to not only hear directly from the wedding department but see the wedding packages that they offer, ceremony/reception pics, etc.

I try to only limit the webinars to once every 2 weeks so we of course can not do all resorts.

Please vote on which resorts you would like to have webinars on...you can choose more than 1.

These are the prices we were quoted for early March 2013, but they cant actually be booked until this feb because they are not even sure if Air transat will be operating direct flights out of edmonton in 2013, so we will find out in feb. We were really wanting to go when it is colder here to get away(jan-march). I dont think June would work for us, but its good to know the huge price difference.  My self and my fiance and some others realize that Jamaica is not as cheap as mexico, but i think there intitial reaction to the cost will be to compare it to our friends wedding :|. My TA said it is definately possible for the rates to go down and that she will try to have some kind of bidding war betweeen air transat and sunquest( thats if they are both operating out of edmonton in 2013)

Thanks for the rates you got and the advice!!

When are you looking to get married? My package is flying out of Calgary for our wedding in June and our rates are about $450 cheaper for the one week and almost $1000 cheaper for the two weeks than what you were quoted. My TA is actually just outside of Edmonton if you want a second opinion. Also keep in mind that Mexico tends to be cheaper overall and the star level of the resort definitely affects prices, so although it is difficult try to only compare to other Jamaica prices.

Maybe try contacting Tai Flora, they're the florist for GBP.  They'd likely be able to send you photos of which flowers are included in the free wedding package.  Their email is [email protected]

Hi pask454,

If you want to pm me your email, I can send your the catalog that I received from Donnalee.  However, I noticed it was a few years old, so I have an email into Tai Floral to confirm if it is up to date and if the colours of the free bouquets can be changed or if they are as is.  The free ones aren't the nicest looking but there is a few that are not too bad but just don't work with the colours I chose.  Smart of you to choose your colours around what is offered for free.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
