Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

Daphodil - Thanks for your support and advice!  Like you said I'm sure it'll all work out.  I just have to take a chill pill lol!

CdnBeatPrincess - I have been saving every single email I've sent them as well as the responses I've received.  I have a file with all the mails that has actually gotten pretty thick over the past several months (haha!), but at least I'll be armed with my documentation in case anything doesn't go as discussed.

Jaykay - I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has received this type of an email.  I sent another email back to Chandlyn stating that I would like to re-confirm that my file has been created with all of the details we've discussed, so hopefully I'll get a positive response next time.  And I agree with you that it could just be the way they formulate their sentences that creates the confusion.

Monarch - I find their response to emails to be very inconsistent.  What I normally do is send an email and if I don't hear back from them within 5 days I resend the email with a note stating that I had already sent this email however, it was not responded to.  My travel agent has advised me that if I don't receive a response after the second email to call her and she will contact the resort directly on my behalf.  So I'd say if you don't hear back from them by tomorrow to resend the email.

Thanks for all the support and advice, and for letting me vent!  You ladies are the best!!

wow. I must have the easiest thing in the world going on. I email Chandlyn and I hear back from Chandlyn, not Donnalee. And Chandlyn said as far as all our details, not to worry, we'll do it all when we arrive, probably because we're only 2. no guests, no wedding party. zilch. I asked her about sending our id and she said not to worry about it, we could do it all when we arrive! lol we picked up all of our notarized copies from the lawyer on tuesday and he charged a grant total of 50 bucks so I'm definitely not complaining. we have our original "sealed" divorce orders both of us so that's what goes with us.

I did have one email that I sent to Chandlyn, but Donnalee answered but I think that might have been because I copied both. I don't do that anymore. Chandlyn only lol

You are required to fill out the personal information sheet at the end of the wedding attachment and email it back to us, so we can create a file for you. Two months prior to the wedding, you are required to email me copies of your birth certificates, the credit card payment form and copies of your IDs(whether drivers licence or passport) and the IDs must be signed by a Notary Public or a Lawyer.

My wedding is still about 4 months away and now I'm worrying that all the arrangements I've previously negotiated with Chandlyn have not been documented.  Like seriously, what the heck does Donnalee mean she needs the personal information sheet so that they can create a file for me?!  I've already sent that in for one, and for two I've sent emails about every single detail for my wedding that Chandlyn said she would put a note in my file about.  Why does everything have to be so complicated with these darn wedding planners?

I just posted what I have and I was told they won't do from photos. what they have is what you can get. no changes in design or colour.

Hello ladies! I really think this resort needs to get its act together! My travel agent phoned the manager and told them of the problems we are having the manager seemed really concerned and said they would look into it and call her back last friday! Still haven't heard from them! Donnalee however did respond on Chandlyn's email to us and had the wrong restaurant and everything! I'm not to sure about that girl i think she needs to find a new occupation! I responded back saying I wanted Chandlyn as it was Donnalee that has caused all the mess with my wedding! I'm really dissapointed with the way this resort handles everything! My travel aggent only does group weddings and has never ever dealt with a resort that is so messed up when it comes to weddings, prices and hidden charges! I sure hope they pull up their pants when my wedding comes! My travel aggent is coming to our wedding just to make sure it goes as it should and for future reference for other brides! Don't think they are doing so well!

I'm also divorced - I have a divorce certificate from the court house that I THINK is sealed (will have to look at it again when I get home) - is that all you had to send in with your birth certificates, ID, credit card payment etc?

If you can let me know, I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks :)

Hey girl, It sounds like you're all a little stressed and things aren't going the easiest with the wedding coordinators right now. I remember being there and I remember SOOO many things going wrong on the day that we had already planned out and thought would be perfect.... In the end we ate married, we can look back and laugh at some of the things we stressed about because overall, it wasn't just the day that we had to look back on, it was the whole week we had to make memories with family and friends. We got a link to a sneak peek if our wedding photos last night, they were done by Merrick cousley ( who by the way is not only an amazing wedding photographer but he lifted my spirits when so many things went wring and on top of it all, our wedding was down poured on! I don't know what unwound have done without him!!) our trash the dress pictures are coming this weekend, I will be sure to post them. Hope this makes you girls feel a little better, looking ahead to your big day, because no matter how many things went wrong... That what made our wedding special and unique to us!

Enjoy! :)

Ladies-

I can not stress enough how important it is to get all of you items back after your reception dinner. Elect someone you trust to collect what you want to keep. I had planned on re-selling my pomanders, battery operated tea lights and starfish bowl when I returned. But I was unaware that they didn't re-collect those things after the dinner so now they basically are telling me they can't find my items and I am shit out of luck and that it wasn't their responsibility to collect the items I gave them the day before to use during dinner.

Just fyi- collect what you want back after dinner. They will not do it for you.

Espejo2be - Thanks so much for sharing your pics!!! They are absolutely stunning!  Such a beautiful day!  And I think you're exactly right - at the end of the day you are married, you have these beautiful pics and a few good laughs!

I know that everything seems frustrating right now, but try to hang in there!  Remember that everything works on "Island Time", the expectations for timely response is very different from North American standards.  On top of that, the language they often use would not mean the same thing to us ie. "you have no file".  Not the best way to communicate that they are missing one form.

For the time being, I am focusing on trying to optimize the instructions that I will be giving to Chandlyn/Donnalee to minimize the chance of error and hopefully give us the best shot of getting what we want. I've made a document with clear instructions and pictures of what I want the gazebo to look like and how I want everything set up (and I included the importance of having the sand ceremony sand in the vases!).  I've also made documents for the dinner and diagrams of each place setting, room set up, etc.  Hopefully between the text and the pics, it will be crystal clear!  We've heard from other brides on here that with clear instructions, they really have gotten the vast majority of what they were expecting, so I think its worth the time!

I'm not sure if that helps at all, but I'm trying to focus on what I can do on my end rather than on the wedding planners.  Happy Planning! :)

Your photos are stunning!  I really love the umbrellas you used.  I've been thinking about getting some for months now but my FI keeps reminding me about weight restrictions with the airline lol!  Where did you get your umbrellas from?  I'm using the same color of blue that you had, I think it looks super beachy :)  Also, did you like the steel drum band?  Would you recommend them?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
