Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

I can't believe all this sadness on the thread :(  I'm  so sorry to hear about you girls and having your wedding days ruined!!!  I  just can't believe it and it makes me so sad.

acw271011-  You should do what you and your fiance want to do!!  I can completely understand wanting everything there though and it's such a bummer that your guests backed out.  I hope that whatever you decide to do that your day is still magical and that you can work something out to make you and your fiance happy.

fleetmac bride- I can't believe that they screwed up your date that badly!!!  When you talk to them you should tell them that you already have x amount of ppl booked and that they have to fix it somehow.  The whole situation is totally ridiculous!  I can't imagine how you are feeling right now, I would be hysterical!!  I hope you are able to work something out...

Does anyone know what handicapped options there are at the resort?  My mom fractured her knee and can hardly walk around the house, let alone a huge resort.  We leave in 2 weeks and she will have a big brace on it and I've tried contacting the resort (I've sent 3 emails!) to figure our our options but I'm not getting anywhere.  She is so worried that she will slow everyone down, I'm just worried that she'll be in pain or won't be able to get around the resort at all if we don't find some sort of motorized cart or something like that for her...  So if anyone knows anything, I'd love to hear it.  Thanks!!

I just heard back from Donnalee who stated that she made a mistake and confirmed my original date without checking with Chandlyn who apparently booked it at the same time as she did for me...whether that's the truth or not, who knows, but she disregarded the rest of my multiple e-mails that stated I will take the date before or after at 4 PM because Chandlyn stated both of these are free. So hopefully I will get a confirmation back that June 21 at 4 PM is still available since it was yesterday when Chandlyn responded.

Fleetmac: I am in the same boat as you. Some of my guests will only be staying 4 nights so they will be leaving the next day after the wedding. Like I said to you, I really can't worry about that because they should hopefully still want to have a good time despite having to leave the day after the wedding. If not, I can't worry about them!

WOW!!! Im so glad that my TA is Dealing with all of this.. I think I would have Cussed out these planners if they screwed up THAT bad on my Wedding Day.. Oh My Jesus... Im angry just reading all of this.

I would CC the two ladies together so they both get the damned emails. Its sounds like they are giving everyone the run around!!

So much for a gift/tip?? I know I wouldn't bother.. Im paying 1950 for LESS headaches to do a destination wedding.. seems like its more from these convo's.

Good luck Ladies!!

Thank you! I definitely did that. I did that multiple times actually (CC'ed them both as well as my TA) and they still don't seem to get on the same page. It's very frustrating. My TA actually has tried putting in calls to them for me but then I told her I wanted to handle it and I just CC'ed her on the e-mails as well. They really are all over the place! Hopefully the headaches will be worth it?

I'm so sorry to hear for you girls and the big screw ups that have been made, i've had my share of screw ups by the wedding coordinators and my TA along the way so i really sympathize with you!! I really hope everything works out for you and that you get over this speed bump fast and on to planning the fun stuff with the relief of knowing everything is set for sure!

I don't have much time left now, 32 days until the wedding and 28 until we leave for Jamaica... I'm excited and nervous at the same time... i think i'm stressing over nothing but it just feels like I need to stress about something seeing everything is still technically still up in the air until I arrive.

We made OOT bags for our guests as our favors and I've put so much time and effort into making them to find out that now we're only allowed one piece of luggage each and it takes 2 months to ship anything to jamaica ... seeing we not only have to pack for jamaica but for Newfoundland too (as we're having another AHR when we leave Jamaica, it's going to be tough to get everything down there... but i guess whatever we bring we bring and everything else gets left behind...

I contacted Chandlyn yesterday about possibly getting a sound system at the gazebo for our ipod and not paying for the DJ and she quoted me $100US per hour but yet the DJ for 2 hours is $250US ?! I don't get how this makes sense at all but then again i don't think any quote they make does... She also told me that we can't confirm any resturants or menus until 2 weeks before the wedding, which i found strange. Anyone else get different responses than these?

yep definitely have gotten a bunch of different responses from them about everything!  I was told we couldn't even rent a sound system at the gazebo, so we are bringing a Bose sound dock to play our iPod on.  We also aren't planning on using their bar bc it's so ridiculously expensive since we are at an AI resort... I originally was quoted $20 p/p/hr, then $15 p/p/hr, then Chandlyn said they would give us a deal and it would be $22 p/p for the 2 hrs... regardless its still way too much money for 41 ppl, so we are going to just get booze ourselves.  And, she told me that they wouldn't even set up a table for us to put drinks on which is SO stupid since how long would that take?  I would do it if she just told me where to put it after we were done.  Grr...

I've also been trying to get her to confirm my restaurant for months...and now we are two weeks out and she still won't give me a definite yes.  So I'm going to email her today and tell her I am printing everything tomorrow and I NEED to know lol.  I've found that if I tell her I have to know immediately she normally gives me an answer.

I'm in the same boat with the OOT Bags...I went way overboard and have so much stuff in them and we just found out that we only get one bag each as well...even though originally our TA told us 2 bags each... frick!  We have SOOOO much stuff to take down so this should be interesting...  I refuse to pay an extra $30 per bag, per way, that is just ridiculous!

I understand the planners are probably very busy but they are also incredibly unorganized and never on the same page with anything...dates, quotes, pricing, etc.

My wedding isn't until next June but I am planning on bringing a docking station for the gazebo because I was also told you could not rent a sound system for the gazebo unless it was with the DJ. So confusing to be told all this misinformation because you have no idea which is correct! You will have to update us upon your return. Maybe they are in the process of making some changes in terms of their rules/policies because frankly, some of them really make little to no sense!

I worry already about the OOT bags because I know how crazy airlines are with their baggage. I know a lot of people on BDW suggested bringing a box with all of that stuff and checking the box and just paying the fee, chucking the box after you are there. That sounds like the best option to me, although that kind of stuff still makes me worry!

I'm so excited for you, the wedding is so soon!!

I would definitely go somewhere above the wedding planners. I don't think they will make it worse for you, I think something just needs to be clarified and you aren't getting the clarification you need. I haven't heard from them either and it seems some other ladies have, I really am not sure what their system is of response, but yours is a very important matter. I don't think it would hurt for you to try contacting someone else, maybe someone at the Gran Bahia main office which I believe is in Florida?

I am still on the fence about the bar, but it makes me really frustrated that you have gotten a few different responses in regards to the pricing. That doesn't make any sense. I agree that with an AI, they really should just supply the alcohol free of cost or for one set cost, similar to the DJ. It would make much more sense to pay $200 for a bartender to be down there for 2 hours rather than per person. These people would be drinking alcohol at another bar regardless.

As frustrating it is, I feel a lot better knowing all of this beforehand and also knowing that you ladies can update us all on how your wedding eventually goes. It seems most people have these frustrations and then end up having a perfect wedding and I hope this continues for you!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
