Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

Thanks. You've really got us thinking about it now. It looks like it went really well.  Did you get the DJ, or just your own music? If you got the DJ, how was his music? Did you get to pick any of it?  We have it on hold, but I know we'll have to make a decision soon whether we're keeping it or not.  What time did you have from and to and did they actually say ok, you're done. time to close up.

I like the idea of the extra cake layer just cuz it looks so pretty and looks great in pictures but we'll be lucky to have 14 so 3 layers would be a heck of a lot of cake... but it really looks nice. I ordered fuschia flowers for ours and I have 2 little silver hearts to wrap the flowers through.

We got an extra layer added to the cake so it was 3 tiers and it was like $40 or something. We had 45 people so we wanted to make sure everyone got a piece. We got vanilla and it was amazing! one of the groomsman actually had like 6 pieces all together, lol!!

I ordered the flowers from Jans to put on the cake as I wanted some colour on it, I think she charged me like $40 for flowers for the cake and for some little ones to throw on the tables.

Katelynn,  your pics are stunning I am having a friend take mine and am a little worried. The photograher's seem to be so much money so I hope I get some good ones yours were great love the one oof you two walking down the beach so pretty. Your hair was really nice also did you get it done at the spa and how long did it take? I love the orchids in your bouquet is that what they look like tinted cuz I was also going to get a white bouquet and get some of the orchids tinted turquiose.

Acw- Great question I would like to know as well Katelynn did they make you leave after the two hours? Was it windy at night in the gazebo I am bringing luminaires to add some ambience and was hoping I woud be able to use them.

I have looked at all these amazing pictures with tears in my eyes!!  I have a couple of questions if someone could help me........

What is the Sand ceremony please and how would I go about it, I loved the pictures of the sand being put into the same container!

Also, how did you guys get your dress over there?  I am thinking of getting one of those men's suit bag things!

I can't believe I've only just found this website!!!! xxxxx

katelynn, I am so happy that you rented the gazebo!  I have a few questions as well.  It looks like you had a great time down there and I'm so glad to hear that everyone enjoyed it.

- did you use their DJ, if not, did you bring an ipod player and was there a place to plug it in?

- did you pay to have a bar set up?  I'm just now realizing how much it costs to get a bar for 40 ppl down there so I'm trying to figure out my options.  If you bring your own alcohol, does the resort supply anything to keep it cold?  And were there any cheap stores off-site that we would be able to purchase alcohol from or do you have to purchase it from the resort?  (any previous brides input for this would be lovely as well!)

And now a question for anyone... What time is sunset down there?  I just booked our dinner for 6, but I might move it to 6:30 so that we can watch the sunset. What time did you recent brides eat dinner?

Thanks ladies!!!!!!!!!!  I can't believe it's just a bit over 2 months, holy cow.  Ordered FI's wedding band last night (www.tungstenworld.com) and bought mine last week from Zales.  My e-ring and wedding bands are getting sized this week, I can't wait to get my e-ring it back, my finger feels so empty without it!

I know a lot of you asked Katelyn questions about the gazebo - thought I'd throw my 2 cents in and hopefully give you guys some info you can use:

First-  we got the DJ and his music was awful!!!  Luckily we did our own playlist and gave him our ipod and got him to play all of it - his stuff was like all crazy remixes and stuff (we only listened for as long as it took to run up to our room to get the ipod - he didn't want to play the CDs we had with us - but he will if that's all you have....)......  But, I will say that the sound system was amazing, and in my opinion totally worth the extra $250 to set it up!!!  I can't imagine that a docking station would carry too far since you are outside and it's breezy (not too windy though), and with the ocean right next to you.....  Honestly, the sound quality was amazing!

We got the bar set up and I'm really glad we did....  They charged us $22 per adult for the 2 hours, so it ended up costing about $1000 but the bartender was amazing - even made a custom drink for our guests!  I didn't even look into getting bottles ourselves, cause I just couldn't be bothered...  There were no stores around the resort that i saw, so I would say you'd have to buy everything from the resort.....  But it's a really long walk for anyone to get drinks at the other bar, so you will definitely need something if you rent the gazebo

They shut things down pretty much exactly at the 2 hour mark - I think they gave us 5 minutes extra or so, and the DJ warned us that he was starting our last song....  As soon as the music ended they started packing up the equipment and bar - they didn't waste any time!  We had ours from 8:45-10:45 so we headed right over to the disco from there.....  The karaoke bar is a great option as well!

We got married April 5,and the sun set pretty much at exactly 6:30, but I would think it would be a little later in June.  I'd say prob about 6:45 or 6:50

Hope that helps - you're all gonna love the GBP - we can't wait to go back......

Hi lsmith, I thought I would ask you a couple questions because I keep getting missed on here!

- When did you finally receive confirmation of your restaurant? My wedding is exactly two months today and I was hoping to confirm the table/seating charts as soon as possible. We have close to 50 guests and have requested the Italian. Did you have dinner at this restaurant as well?

- I am also wondering what the candles look like that are supplied by the resort? Chandlyn said she was going to send a photo but I just wanted to make sure I buy ones that look the same so I can utalize what they already have there. Did you get them to dim the lights for the dinner? I am hoping to get a really romantic feel by having lots of votives on the guest tables and tall candles at the head table.

- Do you have any suggestions of ways to display table seating charts now that you have seen the facilities?

I've asked around and googled too about sunset time. according to the world clock site, you're sun will set at between 6:43 and 6:48 pm in July. for those of us in November it's more like 5:30. I've booked our dinner for 7 because we want sunset photos so we should be ok.

Hi sskelly - I emailed Chandlyn about a month before the wedding and told her that I wanted the Italian and she wrote back saying I could have it.  I don't think they contact you to advise - you should email her and let her know your preference.  As for candles, I'm not sure - we didn't have any....  I brought table overlays, seashells, sand dollars and starfish, and just had them scattered on the tables instead of center pieces, so we didn't have candles.  I also didn't do seating charts or anything, so I didn't request the tables set up a certain way.  I just kept everything casual and let people sit where they wanted.

I don't even have any pictures of the restaurant during our meal to show you....  And I can't even remember how many people were at each table!  Everything goes by in a blur so it's hard to remember details.  My only advice is don't stress about the little things - our wedding was amazing, and all the little things I thought would be important just didn't seem to matter when we got down there!  And everyone told us it was the most amazing wedding they've been to, so I guess it didn't matter to them either!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
