Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

Recommended Posts

Steph - Thanks for the reply! I just wanted to get a rough idea of what to expect. I've heard nothing but great things about the steel drum band but I'd really they rather not play the cliche bride walking down the aisle song (sorry... I don't know the name), that's all. And we all know Beverly takes her time replying... it's so much easier to talk amongst ourselves here, haha.

(ps. that's so cute about your husbands uncle and him playing with the band. And cute that you get to say 'husband' now... it's been over 7 months and "fiance" is still weird to me! haha)

Tris,

I asked Beverly before what kind of songs the steel drum band played and she said they will just play whatever they know unless you put in your selection request.  I'm on the same page as you with the traditional bridal song... So i went on youtube and searched out some steel drum band songs to get an idea what ones sound the best for what I want and submitted them to Beverly for the steel drum bands approval! :)

Hey Tris,

Just noticed you're set for the 28th of April. I'm booked for the 26th!! We arrive the 24th and leave the 1st. I'll have to come introduce myself when there.

What are your colors if you don't mind me asking?

I will have lots of Eggplant & Chartruse Green if you need anything.

I'm still undecided on the Steele drum band, My dad really wants it.

We're doing our reception at the Italian. I've stayed at this property in May 2010 and thought the Italian was better suited for a wedding reception, also the food was better.

Not doing the gazebo for the dance as I reckon we'll be at dinner until at least 8:30pm. We're going to go from there to the Piano Bar up by the lobby (it's outdoors with tons of seats) and we're bringing our own portable speaker system for the ipod. After that we'll head to the disco for some dancing!

I have 2 hair stylists coming to my wedding so my hair and make up will be taken care of.

I understand we have to rent chair covers, I've ordered my eggplant sashes and table runners for the dinner. Also ordered my paper hand fans.

Just about to start working on my guest gifts, thinking of doing thermal travel mugs as this hotel does serve in the small plastic glasses at the pool and beach bars.

Just in case anyone is wondering. The Gazebo has a concrete walk way so if you were planning on wearing heels you would not get stuck in the sand. The gazebo is set out at the end of a rock pier and can be quite windy so just beware for hair etc for photos.

Any questions about the hotel just ask, as I said I've stayed here and I'm also a travel agent so know all about it!!

Hey ehpage! That's awesome. We had the 26th as our originally day if I'm not mistaken... we had to do sooo much switching around and we ended up in a position where we're getting married the same day as another couple (Beverly's assistant double booked the day without telling her, yay!)... but they agreed to do ours at 6:00 (sunset), so in the end I think it will be really nice :).. we won't be getting the gazebo after (other couple has it, it's just our luck, haha, we have a sense of humor about it already).

We'll be getting there 23rd and leaving the 30th, so we'll be there pretty much the whole time together! We will have to say hi, and I may just have to creep on your wedding since you're getting married first! Haha. We'll be going to the disco after our wedding as well. There will only be about 20 of us and I'm sure most of us will be ready to party after... we're that kind of group. Honestly, you won't be able to miss us, haha.

Oh I wish I would've known we could have coordinated colours! Haha! We're actually almost the complete opposite colour wise... turquoise & light brown with raspberry as an accent.

How were you able to pick your restaurant before hand? I spoke to Beverly about it and she said that it was chosen by the resort a few weeks before and you could request one or the other but it wasn't guaranteed.

Hey tris,

One Love - Bob Marley
Under the Sea - Little Mermaid
Iâ€m Yours - Jason Mraz
Lucky - Jason Mraz ft Colbie Caillat Lyrics

Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffett
I Canâ€t Help Falling in Love with you - Elvis Presley
Red Red Wine - UB40
Hawaiian Wedding Song – Elvis Presley

are just a few of the songs I picked out for the steel drum band to play :)  II'm trying to decide if i should get them to play throughout the ceremony or just after the ceremony now... I'm hesitant on getting them to play throughout the ceremony as I don't think it'll be as "intimate" as music with words.

Well I've "requested" the Italian.. I'm sure it won't be a major problem though as we'll only have about 20 people as well. They'll make space. When I stayed there I often saw empty tables at most of the restaurants even though they always said they were full.

Are you flying from Toronto? I have a handfull of people leaving on teh 23rd from Toronto.

Yea I can't justify spending the money on the Gazebo. It's quite breezy down by that gazebo.. I did however see people partying in it the day we arrived in May and it looked very fun, but also very dark.. not much lighting down there. So all in all I'm happy with my decision.

Yes deffo come creep on the wedding and introduce yourself.

I can't wait!!

Okay, well good to know. I think we may have some issues considering the other wedding that's happening on the same day as us.. we'll see though. We've had enough bad luck that we're just laughing at the stuff that doesn't go our way now. It's easier that way. :)

Most of us are flying out from Winnipeg. FI's younger brother is flying out for Toronto and his other brother, parents, and 2 of our friends are coming from Calgary... so we're coming from all over! Haha.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
