Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?

From the photos I really like the location of the Italian restaurant too! That's where we are probably having our reception dinner. Missy are you guys paying the extra $2500 for the private reception room?

Missy, I was quoted $500 for the DJ and Beverly told me to bring my own CDs as well!  Like you said, what is the point of paying all that money when all he had to do is press a button?!?!

As far as the restaurant.... I'm still not sure if I'm going to pay the $2500 to have it private.  What did Beverly tell you about the food options?  I'm sooooo confused!  If I'm correct, if it's semi-private, the food is no charge, but if you pay the $2500 to have it private, you have to pay for your food.  Does this make sense??  What has Beverly told you guys?

Here are a few things she told me:

You can rent out the gazebo without the DJ for $250, just have to get the sound system set up seperatly (although I'm not sure what that means..). Dinner doesn't start until 6:30, and she said you prob need 2 hrs for it (so renting the gazebo earlier than 8:30 doesn't really work). She also told me that they do not allow outside liquor to be served at the resort, so you cannot set up your own bar at the gazebo (you have to pay $15p/p/hr).

The brochures that I had posted about previously came from the resort. My TA contacted them and they offered to send us a bunch. I'll try to scan it in tonight but I"m not sure if the printer is unpacked yet! :)

Kymbelina: according to this earlier message from mekanabr, she had heard from Beverly that the gazebo can be rented out for $250 without the services of the DJ...at least that was my understanding from it...I was also quoted $500 but that was for both the DJ and the Gazebo I believe!?

According to Kerrij, a bride that got married down there...they did not pay the extra for the private room but said that it was plenty private in itself and they had theirs at the Italian restaurant.  But we definitely are not paying that kind of money for it either way.  That is way more than our AHR site is going to cost and that allows for dinner and dancing!!!  WAAAAYYYY too much money!

Ashley - Where did you see pictures?????

Hey girls! I haven't had time to post in a while but welcome to all the new gbp brides! So exciting to have more on the forum.

I totally agree about the dj, what's the point if I'm bringing my own music anyway?? What songs are "musts" on your playlists?? Would love some suggestions!

I found a great site to share with you all... www.oyster.com. they have reviews of hotels & resorts and tons of pictures! Search for gbp and they have a great detailed review of everything at the resort and over 100 pics that you won't find on gbp's website...its amazing!

How bizarre...I just used one of your past quotes and now poof...here you are!!  Were your ears ringing!??  lol!

Thanks for that website...some really awesome pictures...I really want to see more people's wedding pics from there...those are the ones that I am obsessed with!!  Freakish thing though...I entered our dates to stay..and that website said that they don't have any availability!  Glad we aren't booking through them or I would be panicking!

Ironically we were just starting to put together our song lists and there was one that came out in my Brides Magazine...has a lot of hit dance songs!  We are for sure playing:

Lady Gaga – Just Dance                                                               Usher – Yeah

Kylie Minogue – Can’t Get You Outta My Head                       Gwen Stephani – Sweet Escape

Beyonce – Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)                              B-52’s – Love Shack

Cindi Lauper – Girls Just Wanna Have Fun                              Big & Rich – Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy

Brian Setzer Orchestra – Jump, Jive & Wail                              Lou Vega – Mambo #5

Kid Rock – All Summer Long                                                        Lynard Skynard - Sweet Home Alabama

Shakira – Hips Don’t Lie                                                              Rhianna – Don’t Stop the Music

But I have been kicking around the idea of bringing down a speaker docking system for the ipod...I dont know what they are going to have and I have not heard an answer on what exactly will be available if we don't use the DJ and if we have to pay to rent it, what is required to set it up...etc.!?  Do any of you ladies have any of those answers?!

What are ya'll doing for flowers?  Have you decided?  Are we able to go with a different vendor other than the contracted Tia Floral or does that cost extra?

I don't know what I'm going to do about flowers.  I haven't seen the ones that are included in the wedding package, and I'm not very picky and I love most tropical flowers, so I'm holding out hope that they are nice, I asked Beverly for pics but she didn't get back to me.  Does anybody know waht the resort flowers look like?  The only flowers we're doing is bout's for the boys, and bouquets for me and my mom, other then that I'm not going to do any other flowers.  What about you ladies?

The file is too large to upload but i have their catalog that they sent me; there are 2 different ones.  One of the bouquets and one of the decorations.

I attached my quote from them...I think they are very pricey!  I found a girl on Craigslist and actually she had our colors in her bouquets and she had the amount I needed so I bought the silk ones for the bridal party.  We are making all the flowers for the guys...I am hoping to maybe have a fresh one for me made to closely resemble the ones from the BM's and if not, I have a larger one that matches theirs for mine that I will use.  I know that different things that are included in your packages at the GBP can be shifted and moved to upgrade or change things...so I think I will try that...HATE the idea of leaving all those details until we get down there though!!!  I thought about sending Tia Floral a pic of the bouquet and asking if they can duplicate it with real flowers.

thanks for posting this,...I was also wondering about flowers. So Im guessing when we get down there we will choose all the flowers when we meet with Beverly?

What are you all doing about centre pieces, I was going to do vases with floating flowers but the thought of bringing down the vases gives me a headache...I am trying to think if there is anything I can get down there.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
